In the Woods

In the Woods Brand partners for small business and professionals. Websites, Logos, Social Media and Marketing. Stretched too thin trying to get everything done? We get it!

Despite your best efforts, does your “to do” list have the same items on it Friday afternoon as it did on Monday morning? We’re small business owners just like you and there’s simply not enough time in a day to cover it all yourself. That’s why learning how to shave time off the things you MUST do and delegating everything else to someone you trust is absolutely essential to your sanity (and well,

yeah…that little thing called business success). So, let’s talk manageable ways you can begin delegating your branding and marketing activities. Once you get a taste of the freedom and effectiveness offloading these tasks can bring, you’ll never look back.

I just finished reading Juliet Collados' article on Medium and I decided to take her up on her advice about using fringe time to be more productive 😂

Normally when I read a quick article with usable information I file it away in my Evernote folder "social media content" so that I can share my great finds with you. Hah! Would you believe I have over 500 articles to share? When the hell am I going to find time for THAT?

So…not today.

Instead I'm going to make use of a very brief period of fringe time and share this simple article with you. It may not change your life the way it just did mine, but that's okay. I'll keep posting until one day I've gifted you with a golden nugget that works for you.

Until then, have a GREAT day!!! ☀️✨

When naming your business and creating a brand, less is definitely more.⁣

Top benefits:⁣

* Your name will be easier to remember ⁣
* It will be simple to spell out for a domain name⁣
* You’re more likely to get quality social media handles⁣
* Easier to work with for marketing⁣
* Your logo will view much larger in allotted spaces⁣
* Your logo will look beautiful on display⁣
* You can do more to brand with fonts⁣

Just think of your favorite brands and you’ll notice they don’t do what the rest of us do - they keep their names very short. One or two words at most. Think ⁣

Also, they often don’t use their full name - or even use their name at all. They pull the main word or create an icon and use that instead. This makes for much easier recognition.⁣

* Coca Cola - The Coca Cola Company⁣
* IBM - International Business Machines Corporation⁣

Tips:⁣

* Keep your name to one or two words.⁣
* Have one main word that conveys your brand.⁣
* Stay under 15 characters if you can (especially for social).⁣
* If you must go beyond the first three criteria, create an icon or an abbreviation of your name.⁣
* Your tagline is not your logo - keep it separate⁣

I’ve always been a fan of Baskerville. Available for free from Google Fonts (and elsewhere), Libre Baskerville is a great update of a classic font that is easy to read on screen. It is one of the few fonts I would consider using for both titles and body text.

This great article from the MOZ blog prompts two important questions: First, have you claimed your local listing from Google My Business? It's shocking how many of businesses have not taken advantage of this free priority listing in search results. Second, do you monitor your profile once it has been created, actually reading those emails from Google? Protect your brand with regular checks. If you're bad at routines like that or simply too busy to remember, schedule weekly checks into your calendar of choice.

Google's statements about GMB spam aren't entirely accurate. Joy Hawkins busts a few myths about whether or not competitors can edit your listing without your approval.

So great to see a client receive recognition for all of her selfless work on behalf of patients and the community of Raeford NC. It is both a pleasure and privilege to work with you, Karen L. Smith, MD, PA.

AAFP Member Monday Story

When the AAFP’s 2017 Family Physician of the Year, Karen L. Smith, MD, FAAFP, decided to make a rural North Carolina town her home more than 20 years ago, its residents probably didn’t expect that she’d be providing a home for them, too; their home for family medicine.

Dr. Smith’s practice has evolved over the years to incorporate a theme that encompasses the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of general health. It’s an approach that is applied to the full spectrum of family medicine, from obstetrics to care for the elderly in an area where primary care physicians are in short supply. “In terms of growth in family medicine as a specialty, I believe it’s because we’ve been able to acknowledge what people are dealing with from a physical, emotional and spiritual aspect of their lives,” she said. “We’re not a ministry, but we recognize that a person’s well-being encompasses all three.”

This belief has been especially effective in regard to op**te addiction. Dr. Smith’s practice is expanding as word spreads of her on-site services and “high-touch” care she provides to those struggling with addiction. “Not only are we able to provide medication-assisted treatment,” she said, “but we’re also touching aspects of their lives that either came as a result of addiction or that caused them develop an addiction in the first place.”

Dr. Smith is using the recognition of her work as an opportunity to share with other family physicians and medical students. “Maybe it will inspire somebody else to say, ‘Hey, I really want to do that,’ or ‘I think it’s worth it to assist others as a family doctor,’” she said. “I see this year as one of collaboration, and I see the growth of family medicine moving in a positive direction.”

Dr. Smith has certainly helped move it in that positive direction. Read more about her philosophy of care here: http://ow.ly/1OTw30eGzHj
