We've all had those days when it feels like everything that could go wrong does. And when you're a business owner, it can make you feel like a failure.

And, to make things even worse, we look to our calendars, our email lists, our online engagements... to measure our success. But on some days what we want to see just isn't there and nothing we do seems to move the marker.

You know, the days when you are on the verge of tears or blowing your gasket.
(Don't let anyone tell you that running a business is free from tough emotions or performance-based feelings of worth and well-being. They're either a unicorn or plain out lying.)

And if you're like me, there are mornings when all you want to do is pull the covers over your head, shut off the world and sleep forever.

But on those days...
On those days, getting up and choosing to face with world with hope and faith in what you are doing matters more than ever.

On those days, you are most likely to achieve your most substantial wins.

You know why?

Humility.

Humility opens our eyes and engages us in a sincere and open posture towards the world around us and the messages we have often overlooked before because we felt so certain of our footing.

It's on those days that we listen more carefully, observe more closely, try more diligently.

I heard the most amazing story just yesterday about the famous statue, David.

When sculptor, Michaelangelo, was aked how he knew what he was going to sculpt out of the block of marble, he replied that it was not he who chose the figure but that David already existed within it and it was his responsibility to simply remove everything that was not David.

This story inspires me when I consider it as an analogy to my role as an ads strategist.
-
When I take on a new client, I look over their social media assets and we talk, a lot- not only about the business, but about them...who they are, what they love about what they do, who their customer is, what has worked and not worked in the past and their hopes and dreams for the future ...

In our own way we are like David and Michaelangelo- the business owner is showing me the core of what is inside, the most real, vital part of their business... the part that resonates with the core of who they are as a person.

Then it is my job to help them to sculpt the raw material of what they have into the perfected image that they always knew was there underneath, the part waiting to be seen.
