Does your logo need to say what you do? ✨

Not necessarily. If you’re a hair stylist, we don’t need to keep putting scissors in the logos...realtors, enough with the rooflines..we see you 👀

But if your logo is in a room without you, it should be able to sell FOR you.

If your design elements don’t clearly communicate what you do, add a descriptor line. Use that version any time your logo shows up somewhere without context. For instance, if I see your logo out at a baseball field, and you’re not there to explain it, did it work for you or against you?

Because if your logo is out in the wild with zero explanation, that’s a lost sale. You’re not asking your brand to work at that point, you’re just asking it to look pretty.

Clarity over clever. Someone should be able to look at your brand and know exactly what you do and who you do it for in under 3 seconds. No guessing. No squinting. No “wait, what even is this?”

Should you change your business name? Allow me to come to you from the treadmill because life is busy and we gotta keep it movin’ 😎

When I changed the business name from Luhv’lee Design Company to Cohesive Brands I tripled my revenue. I was constantly having to explain how to spell Luhv’lee and it didn’t reflect the product we were truly offering.
