Thalictrum Delavayi - Common name: Chinese Meadow Rue - See-through clouds of misty lavender flowers, like dangling jewels, nod on branching wiry stems. Each finely-sculpted flower erupts with glistening thread-like yellow stamens. Vertical, narrow and airy; the statuesque flower sprays dance above lacy, textured foliage. The species Thalictrum Delavayi was awarded the prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM) by the Royal Horticultural Society. Meadow Rue delightfully creates a dream-like effect as it sways with the summer breezes. Softens a garden with thicker-foliaged perennials. Plant where it will not be subjected to strong winds. Nectar-rich flowers will be visited by bees and butterflies.

Autumn Crocus. The word crocus usually conjures images of cheerful small flowers emerging from snow and ice as the first harbinger of spring. These two are the most common commercially available fall “bulbs” and superficially resemble each other. C. autumnale or C. speciosum should definitely not be used in place of saffron in cooking because eating any part of this plant can be fatal. Keep you cats away from. These crocus us very similar in appearance but are highly TOXIC and definitely not to touch or eat.**

The storied Sunflower

According to Greek mythology, the water nymph Clytie fell in love with the god of the sun, Apollo, who dazzled the earth as he drove his golden chariot across the sky each day. When he rejected Clytie’s affection, it nearly drove her mad. She spent days without food or water as she searched the heavens and waited for Apollo to appear.

“In the end, she was transformed into a sunflower, a plant which turns its face toward the sun as it moves across the sky each day,” said University of Missouri horticulturist David Trinklein.
