I’ve been working with the John Wright Law Firm for over a year. We just dove into running ads for them and we’re not holding back.

There are a lot of things that I wish I knew before I started my business. But that's part of the game. You have to learn as you go.

Here are 5 things that I for sure wish I knew:
1. Nobody Knows Who You Are - If you think you're marketing a lot right now, you're not. Double or even triple down if you're not seeing the results you want.

2. Speed is Better Than Perfection - I always wanted things to be perfect and consequentially never got things done quickly. Learned this one the hard way.

3. Sales is a Service - I only recently got my head around this one. But if people are coming to you for your service they likely need your help. Sales is about seeing how you can help and if we are a good fit to work together, not convincing someone you're the guy.

4. Cool Gear is Not an Answer - I did need to upgrade some gear over time and some gear opens up new possibilities. But at the end of the day cool gear doesn't make cool content.

5. Investing in Yourself is Worth it - I thought this was a sham for a really long time. Then in 2023 I found the right coach and the right group and started to really level up my skills and my business.

What's something that you wish you knew earlier in life or in business?

I obliterated my goal for my 5k. So now what?

Your eyes and your camera see light very differently. That's why your videos look terrible when you film toward a window.

Your eyes adjust for brightness in real time — you can see both the person and the view. Your camera can't. It has to pick one exposure. Either the person is lit and the window is blown out, or the window looks great and the person becomes a silhouette.

Fix: turn around. Put the light source (window, sun, lamp) in front of you, not behind. Camera exposes for your face because your face is the brightest thing in frame.

This one change fixes 80% of amateur-looking content overnight.

Your iPhone films in 720p by default. That's the reason your videos look worse than the phone is capable of producing.

720p is old — the same resolution TVs stopped being sold at over a decade ago. Every social platform compresses your video when you upload. If you start at 720p, you end up at something that looks bad on modern screens.

30-second fix: Settings → Camera → Record Video → 4K at 60fps. If your phone doesn't offer 4K, use 1080p HD at 60fps as the minimum.

The 60fps part matters — smoother motion, clean slow-mo capability, better platform compatibility.

Zero excuse not to do it today.

Your brain knows when a shot looks wrong. It just can't tell you why. That's the whole reason the rule of thirds exists.

Open your iPhone camera app and turn on the grid, that's the rule of thirds. Divide the frame into thirds. Put your subject on one of the lines. Leave "lead room" in the direction they're facing.

Two quick tips that fix most amateur framing:

→ Put your subject on the left or right third, not centered, especially if they're looking off-camera. Give them room to look into.

→ Put their eyes on the top-third line, not centered or at the top of the frame.

That's 90% of what separates content that looks amateur from content that looks intentional.

Planning out your content is a huge benefit in several ways.

1. In the long run it saves you time
2. You can actually see the consistent message in your content, or lack of one.
3. You can bulk, write, film, and edit your content in a planned day.

I’ve been doing this at a low level of 3 posts a week for a long time. Occasionally I post some unplanned content throughout the week. But for the most part it’s all thought about in advance and then created each Monday. Once I got in that rhythm it was super easy to keep the momentum up.

If you want to know more about how I’ve systemized my content. Comment “system” and I’ll DM you.

I drove down to Virginia over the weekend to help a friend with a brand video and some content for his website.

The shoot turned into my longest interview to date and overall made for a fun Saturday! Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, even if that means working Saturdays and driving 5 hours. Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Now comes the fun part of editing it all together.
