We are fortunate it is a leap year, this means we have one more day for Black History Month. I have no desire to be a white savior, rather I support my colleagues of color speaking up and sharing their truth. To them, I saw "Live in Power!" For the rest of us, please take 90 minutes to listen and learn from some amazing Black leaders on Netflix's Stamped from the Beginning. We must all work on being anti-racist, it starts by acknowledging some ugly truths and understanding why Black Lives must Matter more.

According to the Associated Press, slavery has NOT ended in the United States. The food you eat is likely made by forced labor within the USA.

This is a human rights violation and NOT news to BIPOC and low income people because it is our lived experience. Many young men and fathers are part of the poverty to prison pipeline.

If you care then work with me and Equimundo Center for Masculinities and Social Justice. We must ensure equity and inclusion of fatherhood leaders and the guiding principles of men-care.org are embedded within health and human services work.

In a sweeping two-year investigation, The Associated Press found U.S. prison labor tied to hundreds of popular food brands.

This describes my experience with Washington State’s Parents for Parents. I worked with several stakeholders to design the Dependency 101 handbook in early 2009.

In 2011 the Children’s Home Society of Washington took my work stripped the attributions out it to make trademarked it as their program. As a volunteer I was paid nothing. Instead CHSW gave money and credit to others for my work.

It’s called plagiarism but because they got government and philanthropic backing they have zero accountability.

CHSW did not value me as a fatherhood leader, but I’m building something better. If you’re curious what this might look like then check out this link:

Check out the South Whidbey Resource guide. Please distribute it freely to anyone in need of support or services. Copies can be printed for free at any local library (up to 35 copies per week, per library cardholder). When printing remember these tips: 1) Adobe PDF Reader works best, 2) select “actual size” (8.5x11 letter) and not “fit” or “shrink oversize pages,” 3) select double-sided, with long edge, 4) fold into thirds length-wise like a “z” and then fold in half. If done right, then it will look like a ferry-sized brochure.

Send updates via email: [email protected]. Note this publication is not intended to be all-inclusive, rather simple listings for those in need of support. For more complete listings of Island County resources, please refer to United Way’s annual Family Resource Guide or call 2-1-1.

The plan is to produce future editions twice annually, around May 1 and November 1, to reflect the seasonal service changes. At this time there is no Central Whidbey Resources guide, I am open to working with others put together information on what is available to those in need within the Coupeville School District, Penn Cove to Greenbank. A coalition of churches offers a North Whidbey Resources guide, which is distributed at various Oak Harbor community locations. Please contact this group if you want copies of this guide.

It has been a long while since I updated this page. My computer died with all my design files earlier this year and I've been busy with projects and rebuilding. The focus of what I do has shifted more towards community building and family strengthening.

This is the first in a series of pocket-sized visitor's guides. I did all the design work and produced this at a local print shop. If I am able sell enough advertising to pay for future production costs, I hope to work with local nonprofits to sell this for $1 to $2, and they keep this money as a fu...
