"Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us." Romans 8:33-34

If you're a Christian, you are Chosen! But even though you are chosen, you have an adversary - Satan. He will accuse you and tell you God doesn't love you because you have sinned. But here this verse asks us a rhetorical question. "Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen"? It is not Satan that has chosen us or justified us, but it is God who chose us, and "it is God who justifies". The one who has the right to condemn you has justified you - made you clean and whole in his eyes.

The second verse goes on to ask another rhetorical question. "Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died..." The one who could judge you is not judging you. In fact, he "is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us". He doesn't love you because of what you do or don't do, he loves you because he loves you. He just loves you.

"He who did not spare his own Son,but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" Romans 8:32

If Jesus died for you and me, what else is in store for us? What other good things does God want to give us? Here this verse says since he "did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him, give us all things" (emphasis added).

Consider this passage from the Gospels: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 'Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!" (Matthew 7:7-11) Here Jesus is saying, that if we as parents desire to to give good gifts to our children, though we are less than perfect, how much more does God, who is all good and perfect, want to give us "good gifts"? You certainly would not give your son a stone if he asked for bread, would you? In the same way, why wouldn't God want to give us good things when we ask him? Is there a need in your life right now? Before you go to others or wring your hands for what you do not have, ask God. He is more than willing to answer your prayers. He does not want to withhold any good thing from you. He wants what's best for you more than you want it.

James 4:2 says, "You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask." In other words, we go through worldly means to try to get whatever we want instead of just asking God. He "graciously" wants to "give us all things". God went to great lengths to save us. He "did not spare his own Son". He was willing to have his Son die so that we may have life! Do you think he is not concerned with what concerns you? He gave his everything to have you become part of his family. He wants so much good for you! If only we could peer into the heart of God we would see that he longs to give us our heart's desire when we are fully submitted to him. Psalm 37:4 says "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." When the Lord is our delight, he revels in giving us what our hearts desire.

On the night before his assassination, Martin Luther King Jr spoke these prophetic words: “Like anybody, I would like to live a long life—longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will…. And so I’m happy tonight; I’m not worried about anything; I’m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord”

Did Martin Luther King Jr. see his own death beforehand? It's hard to know, but God brought him to a place where he could say "I'm not fearing any man". Perhaps he knew his life was in danger, but God gave him a vision, his "eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord" he says. He saw himself as part of a much larger picture, - one with Jesus in it - he saw the glory of the coming of the Lord, death was no longer to be feared.

When Paul says "If God is for us, who can be against us" he is not saying people will never cause us grief or sorrow, but that in light eternity, what else could matter? It doesn't matter if the world comes against, you, nothing will be able to separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus - "God is for you". Hebrews 13:6 says: So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?" It is "with confidence" that we know God will ultimately triumph over any evil that man can devise against us. Matthew 10:28 reminds us: "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." Like Martin Luther King Jr. we do not need to fear any man, no man can kill the soul. In light of eternity, nothing any person can do to us will have any lasting effect.

If you're a Christian, no one can take away your spiritual inheritance. No one can separate you from His love. Paul, who experienced so many trials and tribulations in this world said, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39). What matters in the end, is your personal relationship with God, no one can take that away from you! When "God is for you", you have all the arsenal of heaven on your side. Nothing can destroy God's plan for your life.

Life can appear haphazard and even meaningless when looked at from a human's point of view. We need to see things from God's perspective. We need to put a divine frame around our lives to give it shape and meaning. Here in Romans 8:28, we have perhaps the greatest verse within the greatest chapter of the Bible. It's a promise. Let's look at this wonderful promise in more detail.

First of all, you should note who this promise is made to. It's God's promise to "those who love him' and "who have been called according to his purpose". In other words, it's a promise to Christians. Unbelievers have no such promise - no wonder so many lives seem to be meaningless. People take their lives for lack of direction, but here we have a promise for those who love God.

Secondly, notice who is making the promise. It's a promise from God. A promise is only as good as the one who makes it. It depends on the faithfulness or the promisor. When God makes a promise you can bank on it. You can count on it because he is always faithful even when we are faithless. It doesn't depend on our character but on his. God's promises are golden.

Finally, there's the content of the promise. It's a promise that "in all things God works for the good of those who love him". Notice it doesn't say in "some things" but "in all things". God will take the good, the bad, and the ugly and somehow in his providence he weaves it all together for the good of his children. We often can't see the purpose in the bad things that come into our lives, but here God reminds us that he takes it all and makes it into something beautiful. It may not seem beautiful, but in his time, in his way, he has a way of turning it all into good.

Whatever you're going through today, God has this wonderful promise for you. It's a promise, that if taken to heart, will bring sound sleep to your eyelids even in such chaotic times. It's a promise that should bring joy and meaning out of all the things we go through no matter how big or small. Cherish this promise. Let it sink deep into your soul.

There were more than 700,000 su***de deaths in 2023 alone. People are tired of living. They long for something new but can't find it. God has an answer for people who are tired of living. The Bible talks about being "born again", or being born of the Spirit. We were born once physically but we need new birth so that our spirits come alive. Once you are born of God, you become spiritually alive - you become a "new creation" in Christ. Jesus said "You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again." (John 3:7) Do you long for a new life? Jesus Christ can give it to you. A new purpose. A reason for living. Once you become born again, life is suddenly filled with meaning and you begin to experience life anew. Give your life to Jesus and learn what it means when to be born again of the Spirit.
