What do Rolex, Apple, Top Practices and Your Practice Have in Common?
Apple computer was launched in 1976 on April Fool’s Day of all things. Rolex watch company was launched in 1905.
Steve Jobs was 21 when he launched Apple. Hans Wilsdorf was 24 when he launched Rolex.
I was 46 when I launched Top Practices – I guess I’m a slow starter. How old were you when you launched or purchased your practice?
I’m a very big fan of Steve Jobs and Hans Wilsdorf. I read the Rolex book by Gisbert Brunner this past Christmas, which was a gift to me from Diane. I loved it. Disclaimer: I don’t own a Rolex.
I read the Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson a few years ago. Disclaimer: I am an Apple user and have been for 20 years. I loved both of those books.
I was struck by the remarkable story of two of the most valuable brands in the world, launched 70 years apart. Their founders were extremely similar. Their stories are very similar. Here is the important part: their philosophies of business are almost identical. And it turns out, with no planning based on them as role models, it is how I built Top Practices too.
