Sometimes the biggest communications lessons happen when things go wrong.

At this year’s BAFTA Awards, an unexpected moment on stage quickly turned into a global conversation—not just about what happened, but about how it was handled afterward.

In high-stakes environments like live broadcasts, preparation matters. Clear protocols, thoughtful editing decisions, and timely, empathetic responses can make the difference between managing a moment and amplifying it.

For those of us in communications, it’s another reminder that crisis planning isn’t optional—it’s essential.

What do you think: when something unexpected happens during a live event, what should the immediate response look like?

🔍 When brands say they value ethics, the real test is whether they act on it.

This piece from PRNEWS highlights how Anthropic backed up its messaging with meaningful action—a reminder that credibility in today’s communications landscape is built through alignment between words and behavior.

For PR professionals, the takeaway is simple:
Authenticity isn’t a tagline—it’s a strategy.

Caregiving youth show up for their families every day. Last week, Colorado showed up for them.

At the Colorado State Capitol, the Colorado General Assembly passed House Joint Resolution 26-1019, officially recognizing Caregiving Youth Day and bringing long-overdue visibility to young people who help care for family members at home.

Many of these youth quietly balance school, friendships, and growing up while supporting loved ones, responsibilities far beyond their years. This resolution helps shine a light on their experiences and affirms that their voices matter.

Congratulations to my client, CACY-Colorado Alliance For Caregiving Youth (CACY), its leadership, board members, and community partners for advancing this important milestone.

Special thanks to Sen. Iman Jodeh and Rep. Naquetta Ricks for championing this effort and helping bring recognition to the work of caregiving youth across Colorado.

A meaningful step forward for these remarkable young people.

When Leadership Lashes Out: Why Words Still Matter

A few weeks ago, President Trump made headlines once again—not for policy, but for language. When asked a reasonable question by a Bloomberg reporter about the Epstein files, his public response was to insult her.

The insult grabbed attention. But the bigger issue isn’t name-calling—it’s the pattern it reinforces: diminishing the role of journalism, dodging accountability, and deflecting valid inquiry with personal attacks.

Let’s be clear:
The question was fair. The reaction was unprepared and undisciplined—reflecting not only on the speaker, but also on the communications team that failed to anticipate and plan for it.

Reporters are the lifeblood of any successful PR program.
The message to leaders is simple: Bite the hand that feeds you at your peril.

In high-stakes moments, language isn’t just optics—it’s a foundation. And when that foundation is built on humiliation rather than clarity, the reputational cost can extend far beyond the moment itself.

For PR professionals and those advising public figures:
-Respect for the press isn’t a courtesy—it’s a strategy.
-Preparation and poise are non-negotiable.
-How you show up under pressure defines how you're remembered.

We cannot afford to normalize hostility toward the press. The cost is too high—and the damage, often irreversible.
