📣 Hey neighbors,
I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of what NV Energy is about to do to our monthly bills (Docket No. 25-02016).

Starting October, they are adding a mandatory "Demand Charge" to every residential bill in Southern Nevada.
What does this actually mean for you?
Instead of just paying for how much energy you use total, NV Energy will now look at your single highest 15-minute spike of power each day.

The Trap: If you run your AC, dryer, and dishwasher at the same time for just 15 minutes, your bill for the entire month could spike, even if you save energy the rest of the time.

The Cost: Consumer advocates warn this could add $30-$40+ per month to average family bills. More for solar PV users, more like $45-110 higher in summertime, per month.

Why this is a big deal (The Legal Part):
The Nevada Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection has officially labeled this charge unlawful. Nevada law (NRS 704.085) says the power company cannot force you into "time-of-use" style rates unless you choose them.

This new charge forces us to watch the clock and micromanage every appliance just to avoid a penalty.

• WHAT WE CAN DO:

The Public Utilities Commission (PUCN) needs to hear that we aren't going to just "adjust our habits" to pad NVE's profits. Complain to the Gov Lombardo too.

File a Public Comment: Go to the PUCN website and reference Docket 25-02016. Tell them you oppose the mandatory demand charge and support the Attorney General's stance that it violates NRS 704.085.
