Story Time:
I was gifted this beautiful quilt top!! It was all hand sewn! Calahan claimed the quilt so she picked out the backing for it!
When I laid this quilt top out for the first time, I couldn’t help but laugh! No one had noticed before….but it makes it the most relatable quilt top I’ve ever seen! Did you see it?
The top 2 squares on the left side are upside down!🤣 I laugh because they were left that way. I couldn’t help but imagine what happened when the person who spent all that time hand sewing this quilt noticed they had made a mistake. Maybe that’s why it was never finished. Maybe they laughed, or maybe they started a new project and just forgot to come back to finish it (if you are a crafter you understand how totally plausible that is🤣)! No matter what, it’s so relatable because I’ve messed up so many projects, quilts, etc. and sometimes you just have to say screw it, it’s fine and leave it! Mistakes happen, and that’s what I love the most about this quilt!
However, the quilt is finished! This quilt sat unfinished for over 30years and if I could talk to the lady who made it! I would tell her thank-you!
Thank you for a good laugh when I noticed the error!
Thank you for not fixing the error and serving as a reminder that mistakes happen and life goes on!
Thank you for not finishing it because this quilt helped me teach my daughter a new skill(she learned to yarn tack a quilt instead of quilting one)!
I would also let her know that it is now serving its purpose….it’s on my daughter’s bed every night keeping her warm! You can see I’ve had to patch it already! I’ll continue to patch it as many times as I need!
This was a quilt someone spent many days working on! It’s a quilt someone learned to hand-sew on(just based on how the stitches are)! This quilt is not made of fabrics bought at a store, but rather made from clothing, towels, scarves, etc that were worn out! This quilt is one of a kind and we love her!!
