Just returned this weekend from the 50th Letterheads Meet at the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio. Over 400 sign painters gathered from around the world to meet and share our love for our craft of sign making and sign painting. The American Sign Museum was a perfect site to enjoy the camaraderie and attend seminars to learn new ideas and techniques of our craft. If you want to see an amazing display of American signage and its history you’ve got to see it. The neons signs, murals, and artifacts of signage history is amazing.

In 2009 my son-in-law, David Martin, was the Director of Communications at Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Tx. He said the school staff wanted a sign for the Liberty Christian School computer room. The kids gave it the name "The Cave". We came up with a design to fit that name. Starting with a piece of 2”thick High Density Foam we cut, carved, shaved, and beat it with various tools for a natural rock finish. After carving the letters and figures the final step was to paint it and fill in the letters and figures with flat back. The kids loved it.

Here is a sign we hand-carved for Watergate Marina in Kemah, Texas using Corafoam HDU. We adhered a layer of cheesecloth to simulate a fabric texture like a real burgee flag. Then applied 23 karat gold leaf for the lettering.

Here's a few images of a surprise project I did for my good friend, Jerry Owen. Jerry built the 1930 Ford Model A Coupe hotrod several years ago. I acquired it from him and enjoyed it for several years.

Here’s an video from a past Letterhead Meet at Fred’s in Oklahoma City. How we miss the good old days of hand lettering at a (now seldom held) Letterheads meet. Folks were slinging paint, gold leafing, glass etching, pinstriping, and having a ball. You’ll see Fred Self (he looks like Santa Claus), Raymond Chapman, Mark Yearwood, Mike Myers, the Padilla boys, Robert Luis, Mark “Magic” Higdon, Ron Myers, Bobo (who’s no longer with us), Frank Magoo, Robert Beverly, Josh Hayden, Little Toot, Todd Goings, Mr. Bill and Kayla.
