My mind works in pictures. So, in trying to understand ACE (Prop A) and VATRE (Prop B) that are on the November 8th ballot, I decided to create these visual graphics for you how it is I "see" it all.
If this helps you, or others, feel free to share.
Why are Props A & B important to me?
Because I support public education.
(It blows my mind that people are *actually* against supporting our students.)
Read on...
What are Props A and B for?
✅Prop A is HOW we pay the state for recapture. It's NOT a vote of 'if' we pay the state, but how we want to do it.
ACE (Attendance Credit Election) is one way where we can write a check and send it to the state because we are in a 'tax-rich' district, and there are other 'tax-poor' districts the state disseminates the funds to.
It's a 'love your neighbor' and give-all-students-a-chance kinda thing. My faith says that sharing with others that have less is a good thing, and I agree.
❌The alternative? The state will come in and PERMANENTLY detach territory from our district to get the taxes from. If there are students in that territory, our district still has to teach them.
So, in one way or another, we have to pay recapture.
They WILL get their money.
✅Prop B is how we are going to fund our teacher raises this year, keep amazing Leander ISD programs, and cover any budget shortfalls.
What!? Teachers got a raise this year and it's not funded yet?
Hell, yes.
Why? Because the Leander ISD board of trustees voted that our teachers DESERVED it. Their votes helped keep and hire some amazing teachers that might have otherwise looked elsewhere.
We are voting for a $0.07 increase M&O.
The board already voted for a $0.13 DECREASE in I&S.
Which leaves us with....(drumroll):
An overall DECREASE in our total tax rate of $0.06!!!!
I will be voting:
Prop A: FOR ✅
Prop B: FOR ✅
Because I don't want Leander to permanently lose any territory,
AND...
Our phenomenal teachers, staff and programs deserve adequate funding.
