Over the past three years, I’ve walked with my dear friend, Cassie, through her son’s Beckett’s cancer diagnosis and treatment at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
We became close friends when our sons were one. The boys were preschool buddies and remained close over the years, despite going to different schools. She’s been like a sister.
In October 28 2023, their lives were forever changed. Beckett fell while roller skating. What initially was thought to be a ruptured spleen, turned out to be neuroblastoma that had spread to his bone marrow.
They would spend the next 18 months fighting for Beckett’s life with their care team at . Beckett underwent chemo, the removal of a canteloupe-sized tumor in his abdomen, two bone marrow transplants and immunotherapy.
In April, Beckett celebrated one year CANCER-FREE after the end of his treatment.
Last year, raised $4.53 million for childhood cancer research and care at Children’s Mercy.
