Most operators can quote their ACOS to the decimal. Ask for their TACoS and you get a pause.

ACOS grades your ad dollars in isolation. TACoS (ad spend Ă· total sales, ad and organic) tells you whether you're building durable rank or just renting it. Watch the trend: drifting down means organic is compounding, flat while revenue's flat means you're paying rent.

Most operators watch total inventory value. The number that actually warns you is storage cost as a share of revenue.

Track that percentage and watch it for creep. When it climbs, it's almost always aged inventory compounding long-term storage fees, usually one or two slow movers hiding behind healthy top sellers. Value tells you what you own. The revenue share tells you what it's costing to hold it.

Revenue is the number everyone quotes. Take-home is the one that pays for the next production run.

On Amazon 1P you can reasonably expect 20 to 40% margins. What decides where you land inside that range is rarely the stuff people obsess over. It's landed margin per unit after the full fee stack: referral fee at 8 to 15% by category, plus the FBA fulfillment fee set by your product's size and weight tier, stacked on top of COGS.

Get the box dimensions wrong at launch and you can sit underwater on a SKU that looks profitable in every internal model, sometimes for a year before anyone reconciles it. That's the frustrating part and also the good news: it's controllable. You can't move Amazon's take, but you can stop leaving margin on the table you never had to.

If you remember nothing else about reading Seller Central:

The home dashboard tells you what you sold. Payments tells you what you kept. Business Reports tells you why. Everything else is supporting detail.

Most founders were never handed that map. They learned the account as a place to check whether orders came in, which is exactly what it is built to look like. The full guide: https://evolvedcommerce.com/resources/blog/amazon-seller-central-guide/

A weekly Seller Central review takes ten minutes and saves you from finding out where you are losing margin before the end of the month.

Here's the approach you should take: start with scanning two different areas: Account Health as a risk check, then the Payments summary to confirm net proceeds moved the same direction as sales.

If those two diverge, something is off and you want to know now. From there, run down the short list: suppressed listings, Featured Offer percentage, ad pacing, sales and conversion trends, stockout risk, and any unexpected fees or refunds.

One question the whole review answers: is anything happening right now that could interrupt revenue or create an avoidable loss?

Save the checklist, and get the full cadence here: https://evolvedcommerce.com/resources/blog/amazon-seller-central-guide/

Weekly is a risk scan: Account Health, and whether net proceeds moved the same direction as sales.

Monthly goes deeper into conversion, Buy Box, TACoS, and inventory age.

Quarterly is the full margin walk-down and a pricing check.

Each check-in layer you move from "is anything on fire right now" to "is this business actually getting stronger. How are you looking at Seller Central today?

The numbers that tell you whether your Amazon business is actually working are almost never on the homepage. You have to go build the reports.

Here are the 8 most critical reports we send operators to get a true gauge of their Amazon performance. Together they answer what you sold, what you kept, and why.

Four screens in Seller Central are built to make the account look healthy whether or not any money reached your bank account.

The homepage sales number, ACOS on its own, the green inventory checkmarks, and Best Sellers Rank. Each is counting something real. None of it is margin, and for a CPG brand on thin unit economics, that gap is the whole business.
