Chicago, IL: On a sun-kissed Sunday morning, June 14, 2026, the Naperville Yard Sports Complex in Illinois transformed into a vibrant tapestry of mindfulness, movement, and melody. Thousands gathered for what became Chicagoland’s largest-ever International Yoga Day celebration, a heartfelt tribute to the ancient practice that continues to heal bodies, calm minds, and bridge communities across the globe. Organized by Mindful Meditation Yoga under the visionary leadership of Anu Malhotra, the event was more than a gathering it was a living, breathing expression of unity, wellness, and collective awakening.
From the moment seating began at 9:30 AM, an electric yet serene anticipation filled the air. Attendees settled onto mats and chairs, exchanging warm smiles as volunteers assured everyone felt welcomed. By 9:45 AM, the pre-celebration ignited with the soul-stirring Yoga Geet "Sang sang chalo," performed by a talented ensemble led by Vipul Srivastava, Bhakti Yoga program director. Singers including Bharat Malhotra, Sanjiv Saraswat, Mamta Joshi, Shivam Vishwanathan, Manjoo Srivastava, Reeta Hoskote, Anu Saraswat, Neel Sukhadia, and Jigna Pathak, accompanied by Prashant Kurdukar on guitar, Navneet Malhotra on keyboard, and sound engineer Saif Ali, created ripples of vibrant energy that seemed to dance across the field and beyond.
Dr. Radhika Chimata, the graceful Master of Ceremonies, set a warm and inclusive tone. Her welcome address painted a vivid picture of gratitude for the sea of participants joining millions worldwide in this global movement toward peace and well-being. She highlighted Mindful Meditation Yoga’s long-standing dedication to self-care, inner growth, and the profound truth that individual transformation strengthens our interconnectedness with family, community, and society.
The program flowed seamlessly into heartfelt acknowledgments of dignitaries and partners. Special welcomes went to Consul General Somnath Ghosh (who arrived later), Mayor of Naperville Scott Wehrli and First Lady Linda Wehrli, and Councilwoman Supna Jain. Gratitude poured out for valued partners including GSA Global Eye Magazine & the American Multi Ethnic Commission, FIA Chicago, United Punjabis of America,Dr Nitin Malhotra & Dr Neil Malhotra of Expert Pain Physicians Group, Dr Paula Malhitra of SKN Institute, Tanishq USA, Dr. Sailesh & Mayuri Zavery, Dr. Rishi Malhotra, Rajat Sahani of Shimla Peppers, and many community organizations like Sewa International, Arya Samaj of Chicagoland, A3N Media, Indian Diaspora Connect, and Hindu Swayam Sevak Sangh.
Anu Malhotra, Founder and President of Mindful Meditation Yoga, received a thunderous welcome. With over three decades of selfless service, she has inspired thousands through her unwavering commitment to yoga as a path to holistic living. Her address energized the crowd, reminding everyone why they had come together. Dr. Vijay Prabhakar, founder of the American Multiethnic Commission and Chairman of Global Eye Magazine USA, followed with inspiring words that reinforced the event’s theme of unity across cultures.
A deeply moving highlight of the celebration was the special recognition bestowed upon Anu Malhotra, Founder and President of Mindful Meditation Yoga, by Dr. Vijay Prabhakar, Chairman of GSA Global Eye Magazine USA & founder of AMEC.. In his inspiring address, Dr. Prabhakar spoke glowingly of Anu Malhotra’s unwavering dedication to selfless service, acknowledging her more than three decades of tireless efforts in spreading the timeless wisdom and transformative practices of yoga and meditation to promote peace, wellness, and holistic living. In recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the community, she was honored with multiple prestigious awards, which were presented by AMEC leadership.
A magical interlude followed as the "Angel Moves" performance unfolded. Exceptional vocalist Anil Jha, accompanied by Navneet Malhotra and Prashant Kurdukar, filled the air with divine invocation while the International Day of Yoga Officers Leadership Team joined the stage, creating a visual symphony of peace, love, joy, and collective wellness.
Dignitaries took center stage next. Mayor Scott Wehrli and First Lady Linda Wehrli shared warm reflections, joined by Councilwoman Supna Jain. The atmosphere reached a pinnacle during the Seva Ratna Award presentation. Rajat Sahani, owner of Shimla Peppers, was honored for his generous contribution of complimentary lunch for all participants. Dignitaries presented the trophy to him and Meenakshi Sahani in recognition of their outstanding service.
The sacred lamp lighting ceremony followed, symbolizing the awakening of inner light and higher consciousness. Partners and dignitaries, including representatives from FIA Chicago, United Punjabis of America, Expert Pain Physicians Group, Tanishq USA, and others, stepped forward to light the lamps together. As flames flickered to life, the musical team performed the Yoga National Anthem, creating a profoundly moving moment. Dr. Radhika Chimata and Nilabh ensured smooth coordination, while partners received heartfelt thanks for their support.
Then came the heart of the celebration: the yoga practice itself. At 10:45 AM, Anu Malhotra took the lead, guiding thousands through an hour of peaceful, meditative movements, breathing exercises, and guided meditation. Participants of all ages and backgrounds moved in unison, their collective energy palpable. The session culminated beautifully with another soul-stirring Yoga Geet by Vipul Srivastava’s team.
A vote of thanks closed the formal program, with Dr. Radhika expressing deep appreciation to all participants, volunteers, partners, and artists. Attendees were invited to enjoy "Yoga Prasad" (lunch) served efficiently at multiple stations. Additional highlights included information on free wedding support initiatives by Sudhir and Archana Agarwal, showcasing the spirit of seva that permeated the day.
In the practice of yoga lies a creative alchemy that transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. Like a river carving through mountains not by force but by persistent, gentle flow, yoga teaches us to bend without breaking, to strengthen without straining, and to connect without losing ourselves. The event, held in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, embodied the essence of International Yoga Day—free yoga and meditation with live music, soulful performances, light lunch, and an unforgettable experience of harmony. It stood as a powerful testament to Anu Malhotra’s vision and the collective dedication of countless volunteers and supporters.
