Star Theatre of St. Johnsbury is once again partnering with Vermont Broadcast Associates and The Caledonian-Record to host a free Christmas movie and food drive at the Star Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023. Santa will be on hand again this year to greet children. The doors will open at 9 a.m. and the movie will start at 10:15 a.m.

On the eve of Veterans Day, following a months-long community effort, a new Veterans Memorial Bridge plaque was installed to honor Army Sgt. Alfred H. Sidney, who died as a Korean War prisoner of war in July 1951 and, after 71 years, was brought home and laid to rest in his hometown in December.

In the past six years, drag performer Emoji Nightmare has staged over 70 Drag Story Hour events across northern New England. Only two were canceled. Perhaps coincidence, perhaps not, those shows were scheduled in towns located 40 miles apart, in two of the Twin States’ most conservative counties: Brighton, Vt., in May 2022 and Lancaster, N.H., this week.

“It seems that’s an area of New England that needs more acceptance and more q***r visibility, so we’re going to continue to work on that,” she said.
