πŸ±πŸ” Detective Darwin is on the case!

Case #2: "Why does my design need extra space around the edges? Can't you just print it the size I made it?"

Darwin's Notes: Ah, you've caught me poking around the edges β€” which is exactly where this mystery lives. When we print your job, we actually print it on a slightly bigger sheet and then trim it down to size. Trimming is precise, but it's never atom-perfect… so if your background color or photo stops exactly at the edge of your design, one tiny shift of the blade can leave a thin white sliver along the border. Nobody wants that.

The fix is something we call "bleed" β€” you extend your background or image a little past the trim line (usually about 1/8 of an inch) so there's extra to spare. Then when we cut, the color runs right off the edge, clean and full, every time. We also keep your important stuff β€” text, logos, faces β€” tucked a safe distance inside that line, so nothing gets clipped.

Not sure how to set it up? Just send us your file and we'll check the edges for you before anything hits the press. Peeking around the corners is kind of my specialty. 🐾

Case closed. 🐾 Got a printing mystery for Darwin? Ask away in the comments β€” he loves a good case.

🧠✨ Trivia Time! ✨🧠

Ever heard the phrase "mind your Ps and Qs"? One popular origin traces it straight to the print shop. Why did typesetters have to mind their Ps and Qs?

A) πŸ”€ The lowercase metal "p" and "q" are mirror images and easy to mix up in the type case
B) πŸ•°οΈ They were the last two letters added to the movable-type alphabet
C) πŸ“ The letters were the hardest to size correctly
D) ⚑ It was old telegraph shorthand

And the answer is… A! In the days of hand-set type, each letter was a tiny reversed metal sort β€” and a lowercase p and q look nearly identical flipped around. Apprentices were told to "mind their Ps and Qs" so the type didn't come out backwards. Stay tuned for more trivia! πŸ–¨οΈ

Quality Control Report #002

"I can see it all the way from up here!" πŸͺœ Turns out a ladder makes for a pretty great vantage point when you're doing a top-to-bottom inspection.

Speaking of catching things early β€” here's today's find: not all images are created equal when it comes to print. A photo that looks perfectly crisp on your phone or website might come out blurry or pixelated once it's blown up on a flyer or banner. That's a resolution issue, not a printing mistake. For anything going to press, aim for images that are at least 300 DPI at the size they'll actually be printed.

If you're not sure whether your file is print-ready, send it our way before you finalize your design β€” easier to fix from up here than after it's already on paper. 🐾

πŸŽ’ Calling all local schools, teachers & PTOs!

Back-to-school season sneaks up fast, and suddenly there's a fundraiser flyer, a spirit wear order form, a set of class schedules, and a stack of name tags all needed by Friday. We've helped Madison County schools and parent groups get exactly this kind of stuff printed for years, and we know how to turn it around quickly without sacrificing quality.

Whether you need a single batch of flyers or a full back-to-school package β€” programs, forms, signage, the works β€” we can help you plan ahead so nothing's a last-minute scramble.

Let's make this school year easy on you. πŸ“ž (740) 852-5934

πŸ’‘ Trivia Time! Choose the right answer:οΏ½

Where does the word "upper case" actually come from?

A) It refers to capital letters being harder to drawοΏ½
B) Old-school printers stored capital letters in a case on top of the case holding everyday letters
C) It's short for "upper class" lettering used on formal documents
D) It comes from typewriter keyboards having an "upper row"

Answer: B! Printers kept their metal type sorted into two wooden cases stacked on a shelf β€” capitals up top, everyday letters below. The physical cases are long gone, but the names stuck around in every font menu you've ever used.

Did you get it right? Let us know below! πŸ‘‡οΏ½

πŸŽ‰ 40 years. Wow.

This year, Wilson Printing turns 40 β€” and we owe every bit of it to you.

Four decades ago, we opened our doors with a simple goal: to do great work for the people in our community. Since then, we've had the honor of helping you bring your ideas to life β€” from the first business cards for a brand-new venture, to wedding invitations, banners, flyers, and the thousand little jobs that meant something big to the people who ordered them.

None of it would have been possible without the customers, neighbors, and friends who trusted us along the way. You've celebrated milestones with us, sent your friends our way, and kept coming back year after year. That loyalty is the whole reason we're still here β€” and we don't take a single bit of it for granted.

From all of us at Wilson Printing: thank you. Here's to the next chapter.

πŸ‘‰ Stop in and say hello, or reach out for your next project β€” we'd love to keep working with you for years to come. ❀️

πŸ’Ό Service Spotlight: Business Cards

Think about the last time someone handed you a business card. Chances are you remember how it felt in your hand just as much as what it said β€” the weight of the stock, the texture, whether it looked cheap or sharp. Your card is often the first physical thing a new contact walks away with, and it's doing a lot of quiet work for your brand.

We print business cards in a range of finishes, from clean matte to eye-catching gloss, on stock sturdy enough to survive a wallet or desk drawer for years. Whether you're ordering your very first set or it's time to refresh a design that's starting to feel dated, we'll help you land on something that actually gets remembered.

Ready for an upgrade? Call (740) 852-5934 or stop by 158 S Main St and we'll walk you through your options. πŸ“‡
