"Won't you miss a steady paycheck?"

Probably one of the most anxiety-inducing questions people ask you when you tell them you're opening your own business or going freelance.

A few things tho:

šŸ¦„ Who says I can't have a steady paycheck? Monthly recurring revenue is a thing.

šŸ¦„ It's both the bad and the good thing about venturing out on your own. Sometimes you don't know when/where your next sale is coming from. Sometimes you make $10k+ in a day.

šŸ¦„ Making steady income on your own is a completely learnable, rather simple skill. (Simple, but not easy though. You're going to have to get really good at having a growth mindset, taking radical responsibility, and having healthy coping skills for uncertainty.)

Getting bogged down in other people's doubts? Let's get you better confidantes :) Ways to work with me in the comments.

How much money is staying stuck in your head costing you?
If every setback reinforces your failure narrative, you're going to struggle to keep sending the pitch, tweak the messaging, and keep showing up in your marketing.

^^^This is what has so many business owners and talented freelancers quitting and going back to a day job... When they simply didn't give their marketing a chance to work.

We don't talk enough about the emotional resilience required to wait it out til it works, trusting it *will* work before you have evidence. And not just passive waiting- showing up and risking rejection, again and again. Experimenting with your messaging until it lands. Being willing to hear 7 nos in a row in one day and showing up to your 8th call smiling, calm, composed, and confident.

Of course there are serious mental health implications! (More info in the Entrepreneur article I linked in the comments. Major content warning though.)

And here’s where toxic Capitalism and hustle culture fail us: we’re taught that the way to deal with this is to not talk about it, avoid the feelings as much as possible, just work harder, try harder, be better.

And that sucks.

You’re not a robot. You’re a complicated organism. You need water and sunlight and food and care and movement and rest and fun and healing enough from your various traumas to not shut down when presented with big risks and big challenges- and, as an, entrepreneur, you will be presented with big risks and big challenges.

You also need community.

All of that is impossibly heavy to carry on your own. If you’ve been trying to, no wonder you’ve been shutting down, ghosting your marketing, avoiding reaching out to past clients, definitely not following up with prospects, or pitching new ones.

Part of giving it a fair shot to work is getting you the support you need to keep showing up. Cheerleaders, coaches, colleagues- other humans who get it, will allow you to voice your fears without trying to talk you out of your business, and will help you to take proactive steps to reach your goals.

When you’re not locked into the doom spiral in your head, marketing, messaging, and sales get to be an experiment, not a test. The failure narrative gets alchemized into lessons learned to laser focus your messaging, upgrade your strategy, know your aligned client inside and out, and make your marketing better and better- to the point you don’t even need a sales call! You just send them the link and they send you the money.

It makes it less lonely. It makes it more doable. It takes the heaviness away and adds the fun.

If you’re tired of being so stuck in your head you can’t figure out how to make marketing that stacks sales the way you want to…

Come work with me. I have 1:1 spots available with complimentary access to my club for extraordinary, radical, black sheep entrepreneurs with one-of-a-kind businesses.

Getting superstitious about this...

I like *never* have the sale go through when I'm at my laptop, dutifully chained to my desk, being responsible and grinding away.

I get the sale when I get the random urge to bake apple pie in the middle of the day. When I take a 3-hour trail ride through some random canyon on a whim. When I'm walking my dog or on a date or rollerskating on the beach.

The sale comes through when I'm *not looking at it.* What's that 'watched pot never boils' saying?

Obvs, I put in the work. But, at some point, I decide I did enough work. Even when the sale hasn't come through yet.

So I stop working.

Then I get the sale.

Who else??

"But Isa, I don't know how to talk to [my very clear and specific aligned client] in [very clear and specific situation that indicates they need my services]."

You have no idea how many clients tell me some version of that. šŸ˜…

Here's what I tell them: "You do know how. You just did."

That's your marketing right there.

Talking to that aligned client in exactly the situation that indicates they could massively benefit from your services.

Make her feel seen, then offer her a lifeline.

If you're frustrated that you could so obviously help her, but she isn't yet connecting the dots that she needs your service...

YOUR MARKETING NEEDS TO CONNECT THE DOTS FOR HER.

It's not pushy; it's taking the mental load off her plate.

Polite people wait for their marketing to passively bring them sales, maybe, at some point, no pressure, no worries, no bother.

Direct people get those sales faster. Because they get in there and tell their people exactly why they need their service, right now, not later.

Which one do you want to be?

(If you need help going from the former to the latter, let's talk. I have 1:1 spots open now.)

Tons more clients, profits, and followers. You thought it just happened by doing the same thing harder? Lol. Babes, multiple systems need an upgrade. And not just your marketing ones.

We get into it on the latest episode of The Irresistible Marketing Pod, available wherever you enjoy podcasts.

Solopreneurs, are you trying to sell something you're not buying yourself?

Are you selling business services while refusing to delegate or get business coaching/consulting/support yourself?

Are you selling something health & wellness related while neglecting your own self-care and refusing to invest in the support that would hold you accountable for tending to your own wellbeing?

Are you offering financial/wealth/money coaching/management/classes without investing in ongoing education and support yourself?

You keep telling yourself you will once the sales come in.

But maybe the sales aren't coming in because you yourself haven't bought into the full-body belief in the value of what you're selling.

You need a you.

A you that isn't you. Because you can't see your own blind spots.

If your service is needed and necessary, stop treating it like a luxury for you.

Go all in. Your messaging is more believable when you're walking the talk.

It's surprising how often people (including me) don't realize…

That wanting massive change…

In terms of revenue, profit, and client roster…

Usually requires massive change on your part.

Your capacity and how you expand it. Your approach to challenges. Your ability to sustain belief before results. Your rejection resilience. Your risk tolerance. What you take on vs. what you delegate. Your boundaries, for sure. Your pricing. Your scope. Your marketing strategy. Your ex*****on. The support you rely on. The support you invest in. Your mental habits. You habit habits. How you manage your time and energy.

And people underestimate how uncomfortable it is to make these changes. How hard it is to break out of your defaults and practice new ways of perceiving, operating, and reacting enough times for them to become your new default. They underestimate how hard it is to notice when you’re backsliding into defaults you need to outgrow. They underestimate how much dedication, grit, and discomfort you’re willing to endure is required.

So they keep going it alone, business as usual, wondering why no matter how hard they work, their results stay disappointingly the same.

Your comfort zone is killing you, babe.

I just had a call with a brilliant client. We spent the whole strategy session catching where she was tempted to shrink, and stretching uncomfortably into growth.

The 3-month 1:1 program? Actually needed to be 6 months to bring about the massive, lasting change to her clients’ finances.

The price? We doubled it, even though the price we were doubling she initially worried was somehow ā€œtoo much.ā€ (When the skills she’ll be teaching could make her clients that investment back in a week.)

The time and energy she worried would overwhelm her? Let’s turn it into a small group intensive. Without lowering the price.

The freebies, automations, extra office hours she was about to throw in? Control, alt, delete.

And beyond all these strategy moves, we were building her confidence that the work, the core of her offer, the heart of her genius, was enough. Valuable enough. Desired enough by enough people. Enough to turn a profit without burning her out. Enough to build a viable business around.

All these business moves were sending an earthquake through the defaults she’d been operating under.

Selling out this reworked offer at the new price point and scope can literally change her life.

But that massive, positive change requires her to make massive positive changes too, even though they’re uncomfortable. Even though they take practice. Even though they require reps and reps for this way of moving to become her new default.

This is why it helps to have a me in your corner. To help you make your business decisions from a position of growth, expansion, and confidence rather than the part of you that wants to shrink, settle, and play it safe.

I’m doing this work too. Uncomfortably.

I’m restructuring my 1:1 program. This is the last week you can get me as your personal Marketing Director, Creative Muse, business coach, and pocket Scorpio business witch at the current time commitment and price point. It’s about to go up. By a lot. Because the results my clients are getting are too big for me to keep discounting. Catch me while you can, the time and money investment doubles next Tuesday. 😈
