The Buffalo Beside the Evening Lodge
The buffalo stands in the color of dusk,
half-shadow, half-fire,
its horn catching the last blue light
as the sky opens behind it.
Near the lodge, the quiet land breathes,
reminding us to stop running
and feel the sacred ground
beneath our own feet.
In many Native American teachings,
the buffalo is a giver of lifeโ
a symbol of abundance, endurance, and gratitude.
It teaches that strength is not taking more,
but honoring what has already been given.
So look at your day with softer eyes:
what blessing have you received
that still waits for your thanks?
The painted lodge in the distance
holds the memory of family, fire, and story.
It reminds us that home is more than shelter;
it is where wisdom is shared,
where elders are heard,
where the young learn to walk with respect.
Protect the places
that keep your spirit whole.
And when the evening grows uncertain,
stand steady like the buffalo.
Carry your power without cruelty,
your silence without fear,
your gratitude without forgetting.
Let each step become a promise
to honor the earth,
to care for one another,
and to keep the old light alive.
