A victory not only for her, but for every Indigenous voice that has been overlooked, silenced, yet never erased.
Martin Scorsese brings to the screen a painful chapter of Osage history, where the villains are clear — but what he truly asks us to confront is systemic racism, historical injustice, and the corruptive force of power and money woven through past and present.
As Brian Truitt wrote:
“Scorsese intricately connects our history to our present reality.”
In a rare Scorsese film where a woman takes center stage, Lily Gladstone becomes the emotional heart, delivering a performance both quiet and devastating. Jocelyn Noveck noted:
“It’s her face that stays etched in our memory.”
And on that stage, Lily’s words became a message to every Indigenous child dreaming of visibility:
“This is for every Rez kid, every urban Native kid out there — those who dream and are finally seeing themselves represented in stories told by us, in our own words.”
“We Are Still Here.”
Proud. Resilient. Continuing our story.
