Women’s History Month is a time to recognize the women whose leadership often happens behind the scenes.
In communications, strategy, and crisis management, Black women have played critical roles in shaping how stories are told, how communities respond, and how leaders connect with the public. For decades, Black women have influenced media, advocacy, and public messaging.
The photos above appear in this order:
Barbara Jordan- whose commanding voice and conviction moved a nation and redefined leadership in public service.
Daisy Bates- who stood at the center of a national crisis, guiding the story of the Little Rock Nine with courage and resolve.
Dorothy Height- a strategic force behind the Civil Rights Movement, helping shape the voice and direction of a generation.
Ida B. Wells- an investigative journalist who risked everything to expose truth and challenge the national narrative.
Before a message reaches the public, someone shaped it. From crisis communication to community advocacy, their work has shaped public understanding.
Today, that legacy continues through firms like Charles Communication Group, led by founder Dr. Shawna Charles .shawna . At Charles Communication Group, we continue that tradition of thoughtful, strategic communication.
