Happy Monday! (Is it a happy Monday?). Being an entrepreneur on a Monday can be just as tough as someone working a 9-5. If you're like me and didn't accomplish everything on your to-do list today, you're not a failure. Your business is not a failure. Like Octavia Butler once said: "In order to rise from its own ashes, a phoenix first must burn." (If that doesn't resonate, that's okay. I just like Octavia Butler). Have a great rest of your week!

So you've launched your ads and folks are not buying what you're selling. You're watching your ad spend go up every day with no results. Again. Ugh. What do you do?

(Besides having a meltdown and yelling at your ads manager, of course. Just kidding, please don't do that).

You're angry and frustrated and don't trust anyone else to handle your ads so you take matters into your own hands. You think: Maybe FB ads just aren't for me? Maybe this is just a waste of time and money. Maybe I should try a different marketing platform. I can't do this....

You open your FB(TM) business manager and consider turning off your ads. You start stress-scrolling back and forth on the ads manager looking at all the money getting flushed down the drain with no leads (ugh!).

That's when you realize you don't even know what all the numbers mean! What's a CTR?? What's a CPM?? How do I even know which ads are getting folks to click and view my products and which ads are not?!

I know. It's a lot. If you don't already feel stress just reading this post, you might by the time you're done trying to run your own ads. I've been there.

You walk through the mall. You see a ton of sales signs at shoe stores. You're not really looking for shoes. (You're looking for bath bombs at Lush). You notice the signs but you don't really pay much attention. You keep walking.

A little further along, you notice the smell of cinnamon rolls. Oh my gosh do they smell good. As you get closer, you see someone with a baker's hat on handing out free samples of freshly baked cinnamon rolls. The smell fills your nostrils and you're hooked. You stop.

They start to approach you with a sample. As they near you, you realize you really don't need a cinnamon roll right now. Even if it is free. (You forgot for a minute that you can't eat dairy, gluten makes you tired and cranky, and your tooth hurts, so tons of sugar maybe isn't the best idea for a lunch snack). You walk on by.

Why am I talking about cinnamon rolls as an ad strategist? Listen, that wouldn't be me in the mall. I'd probably go for the free sample even though I'm low key lactose intolerant and try to avoid gluten because my ancestors preferred corn to wheat. But. And...

Targetting matters. Targettting is everything in the digital marketing world. You might have the best offer (truly, I mean, what is better than a free cinnamon bun sample?). You might have your "ad" or "free sample" in the most strategic part of the mall or digital space. Tons of people are viewing your ad or getting tempted by your free offer. But why don't they stop? Why don't they buy?

It all comes down to understanding what people really want. Once you know who will not only be tempted by your offer, but who will actually grab it (or taste it, in the case of cinnamon buns at the mall), you won't be advertising cinnamon buns to sugar-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free folks, so to speak.

Facebook(™) has an advertising audience of 2.14 billion. Just let that sink in for a minute. Where else can you get that many eyeballs in one place to see your offer? I mean, that kinda speaks for itself… If you aren’t advertising on Facebook (™), you’re leaving money on the table.
But FB advertising can be overwhelming, time consuming, and a waste of money if not done correctly. The days of easy social media advertising are over. Here's a sad tale... People often hop on a call with me after they're spent tens of
thousands of dollars on coaches, trainings and marketing programs. What most of
these "programs" lack is the personal touch - the customized advice OR they are
coaching businesses being run by coaches who haven't yet achieved success (so
they are just feeding you theories really!).

And most of these programs or coaches will get you to waste far too much time on
things like website, logos, printing business cards, writing personal letters from the
perspective of your ideal customer avatar, etc and spend far too little time on the
MONEY MAKING tasks of your business! (AKA just put yourself out there!)

So many people have said to me: If ONLY I had spent some advertising at the
beginning. Advertising (even a little a day!) is a great way to find out 1) who likes what
you're speaking about! 2) What kind of offerings might they like!

So here's the truth: start advertising way before you think. Start recording FB lives on
various topics and promote them!

All those courses and programs that you think will be the ticket to your success are
NOT. They are, my friend, just another fancy distraction from just putting yourself out
there!
