Preserving a Piece of Aviation History: The American Airlines Eagle at LAX

Airports are built to evolve—but some elements deserve preservation. One of those is the American Airlines Eagle neon sign at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Long recognized as a vintage blue neon landmark, the Eagle has been part of the American Airlines story at LAX for decades. Travelers have remembered it as a nostalgic accent within the terminal, often shared online as a rare glimpse of classic airline branding still alive in a modern airport.

A Careful Restoration During Terminal Remodeling

When terminal renovations required the sign’s removal, the opportunity arose to modernize without losing authenticity. Rather than replacing the Eagle with a new interpretation, the focus was on faithful restoration.
