“Catherine never goes anywhere without me knowing first,” my father laughed outside the farmhouse while Mom’s phone sat inside under his family-account control. I was twenty-nine, newly laid off, and still living there because rent would drain most of my savings.

When Mom later asked if he read her texts, I stopped treating the settings as harmless background noise. We texted one fake lunch plan to Red Finch Café and told no one else. Then Catherine turned the cracked phone face down and said, “If he names that café tomorrow, I want him to explain how.”

I opened our vehicle-access page to check an insurance detail and found my husband still had a second active device tied to the spare key he said we had lost. I felt embarrassed as the key turned up in our garage and the account history echoed moments when he somehow knew where I had gone. I began downloading the access log before changing any settings, then watched one entry vanish, refreshed, and watched two more disappear before the export completed.
