We are honoring the trailblazers and changemakers in our Series. 🙌🏿 🙌🏾 🙌🏽 🙌🏼

In celebration of Black History Month, we are featuring American poet Kathleen Collins.

Kathleen Collins was an SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) activist during the Civil Rights Movement. Later she went on to carve out a career for herself as a playwright and filmmaker during a time when Black women were rarely seen in those roles.

Her most known work is the film Losing Ground, followed by two plays, In the Midnight Hour and The Brothers. A never-before-released collection of short fiction, Whatever Happened to In*******al Love? was released in 2016.

Extreme Reach is the first-ever large-scale diversity, and accessibility benchmark for the advertising industry— "Marketers wield enormous power in effecting cultural norms by how they portray people and situations in brand stories. Since the dawn of advertising, who is cast to “play” consumers and who we hear speaking sets standards around beauty, gender roles, who make purchase decisions, and more."

Torrance Winder (he/him) is a multi-hyphenate creative—a singer/songwriter, actor, and writer from Baltimore, MD.⁣

At Unicorns Torrance is an Executive Assistant, but when he’s not keeping this place running, his focus is music. ⁣
⁣
“My thing has always been music. I have been singing and writing music since middle school and it’s been my safe space and the place where I can be my most authentic self. I’m a classically trained vocalist and while I miss singing classically, my heart truly lies in R&B/Neo-Soul & Jazz music.”⁣

Unicorns City Guide: Miami Edition⁣

We are lucky to have Unicorns on staff that live in a ton of rad cities. We reached out to Jenny () in Miami for a list of recs for your next weekend trip 🐠🦩🌴💃🍹⁣

1. BOAT - The number one thing you have to do in Miami is find a way to get yourself on a boat. The best views of Miami are from the water.⁣
⁣
2. BEACH - If you can’t get on a boat, definitely the beach but not South Beach. Hit up mid beach where the real locals go and it’s less crowded.⁣
⁣
3. MiMo District - When you want out of the now-very-touristy Wynwood and design district. The Mimo District has so many fun and eclectic bars/restaurants and places to hang. The Vagabond Motel is a fav in this area.⁣
⁣
4. Superblue Miami - Art Experiences are all the rage and this is one of my faves. Couldn’t take pics in the James Turrell room but that should say it all. ⁣

5. El Rinconcito Mexicano - The best tacos are at El Rinconcito on 8th street. Miami isn’t really known for Mexican food but if any other Latin food is calling your name (specifically Cuban) 8th street is the place to find it.
