Remembering Larry Sellers (1949–2021), a proud Osage actor, educator, and cultural advocate who left an indelible mark on both the entertainment industry and his community. Born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Sellers portrayed Native American characters with dignity and authenticity across numerous films and TV shows. His notable roles include Wayne's World 2, The Sopranos, and his Emmy-nominated performance as Cloud Dancing in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, where he appeared in over 70 episodes.
Beyond acting, Sellers dedicated himself to preserving Osage heritage by teaching the Osage language at the Osage Nation Language Department. His efforts ensured that future generations could connect with their cultural roots.
Larry Sellers’ legacy lives on, not only in his body of work but also in the hearts of those he inspired to honor and celebrate Native culture. If you’re ever in Pawhuska, the Osage Nation Museum offers an opportunity to explore this rich heritage.

In Cherokee culture, women held significant positions and enjoyed certain privileges and responsibilities.Women in Cherokee society were considered equals to men and could earn the title of War Women. They had the right to participate in councils and make decisions alongside men. This equality sometimes led outsiders to make derogatory remarks, such as the accusation of a "petticoat government" by the Irish trader Adair.Clan kinship was matrilineal among the Cherokee, meaning that family lineage and inheritance were traced through the mother's side. Children grew up in their mother's house, and maternal uncles held the role of teaching boys essential skills related to hunting, fishing, and tribal duties.Women owned houses and their furnishings, and marriages were often negotiated. In the event of a divorce, a woman would simply place her spouse's belongings outside the house. Cherokee women had diverse responsibilities, including caring for children, cooking, tanning skins, weaving baskets, and cultivating fields. Men contributed to some household chores but primarily focused on hunting.

NATIVE AMERICANS – THE FIRST OWNERS OF AMERICA
Native Americans, or the indigenous peoples of the Americas, are the pre-Columbian inhabitants of North and South America and their descendants. Those who live within the boundaries of the present-day United States are composed of numerous, distinct tribes, bands and ethnic groups, many of which survive as intact, sovereign nations.
Most authorities agree that the first evidence of people inhabiting North America indicates that they migrated here from Eurasia over 13,000 years ago, most likely crossing along the Bering Land Bridge, which was in existence during the Ice Age. However, some historians believe that people had migrated into the Americas much earlier, up to 40,000 years ago. These early Paleo-Indians spread throughout the Americas, diversifying into many hundreds of culturally distinct nations and tribes.
Application of the term “Indian” originated with Christopher Columbus, who, in his search for Asia, thought that he had arrived in the East Indies. However, there is considerable evidence in support of successful explorations which led to Norse settlement of Greenland, the L’Anse aux Meadows settlement in Newfoundland, and potentially others some 500 years prior to Columbus landing in the Bahamas. From the Native American aspect, many tribes’ oral histories indicate they have been living here since their genesis, as described by a wide range of creation myths.
By the time European adventurers arrived in the 15th century, scholars estimate that more than 50 million people were already living in the Americas. Of these, some 10 million lived in the region that would later become the United States. As time passed, these migrants and their descendants pushed south and east, adapting as they went. With these new arrivals came centuries of conflict and adjustment between Old and New World societies. Today, Native Americans account for about 1.5 percent of the United States population, many of whom continue to take pride in their ancestral traditions — still practicing the music, art, and ceremonies that took place many years ago.

It does not matter to me the color of your skin, your creed, or gender, i do not care about your political affiliation, your nationality, or the language you speak. The only thing that matters to me is the passion, respect and love for the Great Spirit and our Mother Earth.
For once i see a kindred spirit that connects to the Great Mystery and the sacred hoop as i do, than we are on the same spiritual road that will lead us to the same place.
For in mind we were made unique to have different view points and creativity that we should honor and respect, but our Spirit is related and once we connect through the one spirit source than we feel that love of family. For your physical attributes i do not see when we are on the same journey of our spirit.

There is divine signs everywhere that the time is coming soon when a deep peace and a sharing of love will sweep over this sacred land. The light bringer's and the star children bring there sweet love and there great respect and honor for Mother Earth.
For great glory does not come from personal wealth or fame, but from the Great Spirit living within your heart and spirit. For the ones who receive this, they truly are the blessed ones. Surrender yourself to this great awakening and you will be the chosen few who usher in this age.

It does not matter how you say your prayers from within your heart, it will never matter what rituals or ceremonies you perform to show your love and honor to the one, never doubt or think you are wrong with the name you have for the one. There is only one with many names that we all give our prayers and respect to, there is only one we all have within our heart and spirit, there is only one that has created all things of this physical world and the source where all souls dwell.
For the First Nations believe that the Creator is a living energy that lives in all life and in all things, that nothing could exist in this physical world without this living energy dwelling within it. For the whole of all this living energy we call Great spirit, and we all have a small part of it.
So we should never trouble another people for showing their love or saying their prayers to the one in a different way, we should not trouble another people for honoring the one in a different way. For we are all related, we are all one, we are all brothers and sisters in the living energy of spirit.
