"A Voice from the First Earth"

I dream a dream where eagles soar,
Where drums of justice beat once more.
Where wisdom flows from ancient land,
And truth is shaped by steady hands.

Not built on greed, nor sword, nor chain,
But rooted deep in sacred plain.
A leader born of sky and stone,
Who calls this stolen country home.

Let cedar smoke rise to the skies,
Let broken treaties meet our eyes.
One day, may nations understand—
True power walks with open hand.

And in that light, with courage sent,
May rise a Native President.

“Whispers of the Seven Grandfathers”

The Elders spoke beneath the sky of fire,
Their voices woven through the wind’s desire.
“Walk with Courage,” said the bear so bold,
“Let your heart be stronger than the cold.”

“Show Respect,” the bison cried,
“For all that breathes, for all that died.”
“Seek Wisdom,” hummed the beaver’s song,
“Through work and love, you will grow strong.”

“Hold Humility,” whispered the wolf,
“True power bows to what’s above.”
“Speak with Honesty,” called the tiny feet,
“For lies may bloom, but truth is sweet.”

“Give Love,” the eagle spread its wings,
“Care for the circle, the life it brings.”
“And hold to Truth,” the turtle sighed,
“For in its shell, all worlds abide.”

Now I walk beneath the moon’s soft gleam,
Carrying their teachings like a sacred dream.
Seven voices, one beating heart—
The way of the ancestors, where all paths start.

Come close, my little one,
rest your soft nose against mine.
Feel the warmth of my breath—
it is the song of the ancestors,
carried through me, now into you.

You are my cub,
born of earth, river, and sky,
wrapped in the circle of our people,
held in the strength of our clan.
Every heartbeat of mine
is a drum to guide your steps,
every pawprint I leave
is a path for you to follow.

Remember, child—
walk with kindness in your paws,
for the forest listens.
Carry respect in your heart,
for all beings are kin.
The salmon, the cedar, the eagle—
they are your teachers too.

I will protect you
with the fury of storm winds,
yet I will teach you
to be gentle as falling snow.
One day you will walk alone,
but never forget—
my love is the lodge around you,
my spirit the fire that will never fade.

So grow strong, little cub,
grow wise, grow true.
And always know,
as long as the rivers flow
and the mountains breathe,
you are forever
my heart.

"To the Hearts That Have Been Broken"

If your heart has ever cracked open

please, don’t rush to hide it.
The fractures don’t make you any less worthy —
they simply mean you once loved deeply,
once trusted fully,
and were brave enough to feel life with all your softness.

There are wounds no one sees,
like a leaf falling in the quiet of night —
silent, unnoticed,
and yet still part of the season.
You, too, are a part of this world,
even if you’ve fallen,
even if you’ve been broken more than once.

Don’t blame yourself for feeling too much,
for holding on, for believing, for hoping.
It is that very tenderness
that makes your heart beautiful —
not in a way that demands to be explained,
but in a way that longs only to be seen with kindness.

If today feels heavy,
let yourself rest.
Not everyone is strong every day.
Some afternoons need nothing more
than a quiet cup of tea
and a space where no one asks you to be okay.
And that, too, is healing.

You don’t have to pretend.
Be sad, if sadness is here.
Cry, if your tears are waiting.
You are not weak —
you are just real,
and real hearts feel everything before they heal.

And you know

those who’ve been broken often become the gentlest souls —
because they’ve tasted sorrow,
and from it, learned how to be a safe place for others.

So stay.
The world still needs you.
Even if you’re not whole yet,
you — in the way you continue to move forward —
are already something beautiful.

When we, the Indian people, hunt animals, we eat everything — we don’t waste.
When we dig for roots or build homes, we make only small holes.
Even when we burn grass to catch grasshoppers, we don’t harm the land.
We gather acorns and pine nuts by shaking trees — we don’t cut them down.
We use only dead wood, not living trees.

But white people plow the earth, cut down trees, and destroy nature.
They don’t seem to care.
How can the Spirit of the Earth be happy with that?
Everywhere the white man touches becomes wounded.

This is the wisdom of our ancestors —
the ones who lived in a sacred and balanced way.

As Pure as the Sky

She drapes herself in white,
like morning clouds drifting—
a quiet hymn of light
woven from breath and silence.

Her stillness is the open sky,
endless, unbound, serene.
Every fold of her gown
whispers of rain, of wind, of dreams.

A butterfly leans on her heart,
as if resting on a summer cloud,
trusting her calm,
trusting her purity.

She is the horizon’s sigh,
the untouched air after rain—
a soul so clear,
the world reflects its truth in her.
