CHASI-TA, SON OF THE WARM SPRINGS APACHE NANTAN, BONITO:

He is shown here with the unique, single stringed Apache violin. Meanwhile his feet are flanked by an Apache burden basket to the right, and a storage basket to the left. The Apaches rule in basketry. Some of their baskets were woven tight enough to store water.

People ask me if I believe in god... I tell them I pray to creator.
They tell me Jesus died for me... I tell them my ancestors did.
They say I will burn in hell for not following the Bible, but yet it has been used as weapon to colonize and murder my people...
for me it’s spirituality over religion. I don’t hate people for going to church, but I do hate what the churches have done to us...
before colonization we had our own ways and ceremonies, I choose the path of my ancesto…

So, believe it or not, a few states in the U.S. still prohibit Native students from wearing traditional regalia to graduation.

Should Indigenous graduates be allowed to wear things like feathers and such when they graduate?.

Geronimo was one of the most relentless resistance leaders in Native history.
For decades, he evaded thousands of soldiers across deserts and mountains, using unmatched survival skills and battlefield intelligence.
Master of guerrilla warfare
Knew every canyon and trail
Escaped capture multiple times
Became a legend even among enemies
He wasn’t running away.
He was outsmarting an empire..

Wanada Parker is a distinguished figure in Comanche history, recognized as the daughter of Quanah Parker, the renowned chief of the Nocona Comanche tribe, and Weckeah. Born in 1882, her name, Wanada, is thought to signify "bringer of victory" or "victorious woman" in the Comanche language. Her life spanned nearly a century, from the late 19th century into the 20th century—a period marked by significant transformation for her people. Wanada was married twice; her first marriage was to Walter Komah in 1906, who sadly passed away in 1912. She subsequently married Benjamin Harrison Page, an orthopedic surgeon, in 1916. Wanada Parker passed away in 1970 at the age of 89, leaving a legacy as a direct descendant of one of the most prominent leaders of the Great Plains. A photograph of her, taken by Edward Bates in 1909, serves to immortalize her image. .
