𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐃𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞 ❤
Chief Dan George was actually a chief of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation in British Columbia, Canada from 1951 to 1963. Also an author and poet, George achieved his first acting job at the age of 60, appearing in the Canadian TV show, Caribou Country. But George’s acting career didn’t peak until 1970 when he starred in Little Big Man, a role for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Another great role for George was the part of Lone Watie in The Outlaw Josie Wales (1976), often considered one of the best American Westerns. And George’s performance in this American classic could be considered Oscar-worthy as well. George also appeared on TV shows such as Kung Fu. During George’s writing career, he was credited with fostering understanding between non-native and Native Americans, particularly with the release of his book, My Heart Soars..

The Legend of the Eagle and the Sun
Long ago, the Sun, a powerful deity, gave life to all creatures but was too intense, causing suffering on Earth. Only the Eagle, with its strength, could fly close to the Sun without being harmed.

The Eagle asked the Sun to share its light more gently so that life could thrive without pain. The Sun agreed, and from that moment, the Eagle became the messenger of balance and harmony between the light and dark, bringing peace and wisdom to the world.

“The Knock Before the Silence”

They say Raven never brings death.
He only brings the message that it’s near.

He does not scream.
He waits.
On the roof.
On the branch.
On the edge of your final breath.

The elders say:

“When Raven comes close, do not fear — listen.”

He comes not with chains,
but with memory.

He asks:
Have you said what matters?
Have you walked your path in truth?
Have you left behind something worth carrying on the wind?

Raven does not take.
He reminds.
That time is not endless.
That silence will come.
And when it does —
only your truth will echo.

I don't know why this hasn't received more publicity, but this fifty-foot sculpture was unveiled recently in South Dakota.
It's called 'Dignity' and was done by artist Dale Lamphere to honor the women of the Sioux Nation.

“The Friend of the Night”
In many Native homes, when the sun slipped behind the hills and the drums grew quiet, people returned to their tipis to rest —
but the owl remained awake with the night.

My grandfather once said:

“When the village sleeps, the owl keeps watch for us.”

The owl never made a fuss.
It perched silently on a branch near the lodge,
watching shadows move through the darkness.
Sometimes it was a weasel sneaking into the chicken coop.
Other times, a strange wind brushing past a child’s tent.

To the elders,
the owl was a weather whisperer —
if it flew close to camp, winter was coming early.

To children,
its call was the earth’s lullaby,
a story told when mothers were too tired to speak.

To hunters,
it was a silent guide —
if the owl flew east,
they believed the spirit of the animal waited in that direction.

And though its voice could send a shiver down the spine,
no one chased the owl away.
Because they knew:

The owl does not bring fear —
it brings what we are ready to face.

“The Trickster Who Watches”
In Native stories, the Raven is not a hero. He isn’t grand or glorious. But he is a survivor.

While others cry to the wind or plead to the sky, Raven tilts his head, chuckles quietly, and finds another way. No one taught Raven how to live — he learned by watching, copying, and then doing it better.

The elders say:

“When Raven watches you, he isn’t just looking — he’s learning.”

Raven is the one who stole the light, not to keep it, but to poke at the dark and ask:

“Now that you have it, what will you do with it?”

He is a thief, a trickster, a challenger of certainty.
But he is also a guide — for those lost, those ready to laugh, those ready to see differently.

To those who know how to look, Raven is not just a black bird —
He is a test of your wit, and a mirror for your patience.

Drink water where your horse drinks, a horse will never drink bad water. Make your bed where the cat sleeps peacefully. Eat fruit touched by a worm. It fearlessly collects mushrooms on which insects perch. Plant a tree dug by the mole. Dig a hole where the birds hide from the heat. Sleep and wake up at the same time as the birds, you will reap the golden grains of life. Eat more greens, you will have stronger legs and a resilient heart like the spirit of the forests. Look at the sky more often and talk less so that silence can enter your heart. and your soul is calm and your life is peaceful..
