Heads up to the visual effects / post-production industry! ICYMI:

Asked about the biggest changes and trends he’s seen over the last year, our client Joseph Bell tells Animation World Network, “The VFX and Animation industry continued to experience significant volatility over the past 12 months. Globally, the industry grew by almost 10% in the second half of last year, a partial rebound from the larger decrease in content commissioning that took place during and after the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes. The trend then reversed in the first half of 2025, and the industry today is approximately the same size as it was 12 months ago, at least in terms of headcount. Production levels remain well below their peak in 2022.”

He adds, “Technicolor was one of the largest employers in the industry when the group collapsed in February of this year. The city most impacted was their longtime production hub in Bangalore. Technicolor studios in Europe and North America were either acquired (along with Technicolor Games in India) or relaunched.”

Explaining that the closing of Technicolor and the Scottish studio, Axis, for example, should be analyzed carefully, Bell shares, “It’s tempting to view high-profile studio closures as a sign that the industry is in decline. However, the reality is more nuanced. Over the past year, numerous new VFX and animation studios have launched, often in the same locations where established companies recently shut down. Many of these new ventures are led by executives and talent from studios that closed in the same location just months, weeks, or even days before. They are able to secure financial backing, and sometimes inherit projects and clients directly from the shuttered studios. While new ventures don’t diminish the shock of hundreds or thousands of people losing jobs overnight, it’s clear that you can still find plenty of people who see a future in leading and financing VFX, animation, and post-production companies.”

Hot off the PR Daily digital presses!

It’s a familiar scenario for so many in PR: Your leadership or your client ask you to get a headline out of something you know won’t catch a journalist’s attention.

What do you do? How do you act as a trusted counselor while also avoiding burning capital with journalists?

Here's what Rushing PR Founder Lana Rushing had to say:

"I explain why something isn’t news and talk through other possible ways to convey a message. Perhaps a bylined article is a better way to go, or even a survey on the topic. When a client doesn’t have news, I often bring in a strategically architected survey to the rescue! I have never had a client pressure me to pitch non-news. They take my counsel seriously."

Just published: check out this postPerspective feature on Ingenuity Studios + "SAS Rogue Heroes" Season 2!

BONUS for Rushing PR followers, here's the full quote from Director Stephen Woolfenden about how the Ingenuity Studios team added value:

“We had a very positive experience working with Dave Sewell, Patrick Dean, Mary-Margaret Cimino and the team at Ingenuity Studios on SAS Rogue Heroes Series 2. I felt so supported as the director of the series.

During preproduction, the Ingenuity team conducted great research; offered thorough examination and discussion of different strategies, techniques, and budgets; and established a realistic understanding and agreement of what we could all achieve.

While shooting, Ingenuity provided positive creative and logistic support, including on-set support across two units. The VFX department also looked after some drone work, plate work, and VFX requirements in their own time away from the main unit.

Throughout the post-production process, weekly VFX reviews with Ingenuity were a joy. They were dynamic, fun, creative, and kept the show on schedule through great detail and organisation. Changes and tweaks were handled quickly and with understanding. Research paid off and it felt like sequences were evolving, growing, and punching high above their budget.”

From Lana Rushing:

Learning how to fact check is such an important skill in life. I'm thankful to have a journalism degree and insatiable curiosity. I try to learn everything I can about a subject rather than accept someone's opinion at face value. I wish more people wanted to dig deeper. Even if you don't have a lot of time, you can find answers if you know where to look.

Bravo to The News Literacy Project's RumorGuard for helping to demystify complex issues by providing helpful context that is easy to understand quickly. There's no way we can all be experts at everything. That's why fact-based reporting remains crucial, and tools like RumorGuard are essential.

(Shout out to Iowa State University Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication! I very much enjoyed my time learning from some amazing professors there!)

❌ No, 20 million dead people are not receiving Social Security checks.

This viral claim of widespread Social Security fraud is based on a misinterpretation of data. Charts, graphs, photos and videos can be taken out of context and shared with inaccurate claims.

⚠️Think before you share: Look for logical explanations, wait for additional reporting and check for context.
