Didn’t we just do this? 😮‍💨

Google launched the May 2026 core update today, barely six weeks after the March update wrapped up. Way faster than the usual three or four-month gap.

And this lands the same week as I/O 2026, where Google laid out a Search overhaul built around AI: AI Mode, information agents that scan the web on your behalf, Universal Cart pulling products from multiple retailers into one checkout, AI commentary that can talk users out of a purchase mid-cart, and even a redesigned search box.

A lot to keep up with, and now a core update on top of it.

Core updates cause volatility. The good news is that they still reward the same things they always have: quality content and clean SEO foundations. So our clients tend to come out of these just fine.

Better-looking slop is still slop. 🤐

Manus AI is an autonomous agent startup whose $2 billion acquisition by Meta was recently blocked by China and is now reportedly being unwound.

The Verge reported that Manus, even as that deal got messier, continued using Meta’s name to promote a “get-rich-quick” scheme, running ads that promised easy money by using AI to quickly build and then sell websites to local businesses.

The weirdest part of the story is not that an AI company tried to sell AI as a shortcut. That part is predictable - even if seeing Meta’s name attached to it is kinda wild.

The weirdest part is actually how normal the pitch already feels.

Because it only works if people have already accepted the idea that professional work is mostly output. A page. A layout. A graphic. A website.

Just look at the reaction to ChatGPT’s latest image generation model.

But design is not just the finished-looking thing. It is the human judgment behind it.

And, before you say it: yes, AI was used in this carousel.

But AI did not design it.

It helped with production. The strategy, direction, creativity, editing, layout decisions, and quality control still came from people.

In fact, we tried generating the full carousel with AI alone, as a sort of fun self-referential commentary.
..it was unusable. 🤷

Do you even know if your brand shows up in AI search? 😵‍💫

In this episode of Cyber Salve, Jordan Brannon sits down with Patrick Schmid of RankScale to diagnose the confusion brands face when trying to understand their visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Overviews, and other AI search experiences.

The conversation explores why AI rank tracking is still so volatile, how ChatGPT may rely on Google’s index when it needs to search beyond its knowledge cutoff, and why that still doesn’t mean ranking well in traditional search automatically makes your brand visible in AI responses. They also break down how marketers can start measuring AI visibility, what signals may show that AI Overviews are affecting traffic, and why understanding real customer prompts matters more than chasing generic rankings.

Being the loudest cannabis or CBD brand on 4/20 does not build long-term success. Being the one that stays technically sound year-round does.

Most brands treat 4/20 like a one-day spike. The ones driving consistent revenue are building for the next 3 years.

This space rewards integrated systems over isolated tactics.

If SEO is not working with the email list, and site design is not converting that traffic, revenue is being left on the table.

We’ve seen too many brands get throttled by platform shifts because they did not own their audience. Direct channels and organic search keep revenue more predictable when everything else changes.

The market is maturing, and strategy needs to mature with it.

When you're trying to plan a summer vacation, but you're a business owner and Amazon still hasn’t announced the dates for Prime Day yet. 😭

In our experience, waiting for the announcement puts more pressure on every part of the promo calendar. Brands that move first are in a better position to protect budget and align inventory to launch on time.

The brands that win are already building:
📦 Flexible promo frameworks
📦 Scalable budgets
📦 Pre-Prime Day acquisition campaigns

New updates in Google and Microsoft ads are making it easier for advertisers to create, test, and optimize ads with less friction.

Google just embedded Nano Banana Pro directly into Google Ads, free for all advertisers. Plus, their expanded Creative Toolkit is expanding, pulling more of the production process into the platform.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Ads quietly restructured how automated bidding works for new campaigns, making setup simpler without changing how the strategies actually perform.

💡 Why it Matters:

These updates streamline setup, speed up optimization, and give advertisers more control over assets and bidding. But it also means more responsibility in ex*****on.

Staying current on these updates is part of what we do. If your paid campaigns could use a sharper eye, you know where to find us.

📣 Google just dropped two search algorithm updates back to back: the March 2026 Spam Update and the March 2026 Core Update.

First came the spam update, which rolled out on March 24 and wrapped up on March 25, in just one day. Then early this morning, Google officially launched its first broad core update of 2026, which is expected to take up to two weeks to complete.

As usual, the core update is designed to better surface relevant content, and the spam update is meant to catch sites relying on tactics that violate Google's spam policies.

Don't be surprised if sites using the black hat tactics that have been popping up recently to manipulate visibility in AI Overviews and AI Mode take a hit.

Sites built on shortcuts get exposed during updates like this, but Coalition clients don't need to worry, because sites built on strong content and clean SEO come out just fine.
