**THE MEDIA DOESN'T CARE THAT YOU WROTE A BOOK.**
I know. That sounds harsh.

But after 20+ years working in PR, entertainment, and media, both **in front of and behind the camera**, I can tell you what the media is actually looking for:
**A STORY.**

Thousands of books are published every single day.
"I wrote a book" isn't the story.

Why does your book matter **right now?**
*What are you saying that people are already talking about?
*What expertise can you bring to a breaking news story?
*What can you teach their audience?
*What happened in your life that makes people stop and listen?
*What opinion do you have that creates a conversation?

THAT is where PR begins.

One of the biggest mistakes I see authors make is pitching their book instead of pitching the **story inside or around the book.**

Your book gives you credibility.
Your expertise gives you authority.
Your story gives the media something they can actually use.

And when you put those three together strategically, that book can open doors to podcasts, television, print, speaking opportunities, partnerships, clients, and an entirely different level of visibility.

I've been the publicist pitching the story.
I've been the talent being pitched.
I've worked on both sides of the camera.

So when I tell authors that **the angle matters**, it's because I've seen firsthand what gets someone's attention and what gets deleted.

**HE'S WATCHING EVERYTHING I BUILD.**

Being a mom and running a business means there are plenty of days when these two worlds collide.
*Calls from the car.
*Writing after bedtime.
*Client emergencies while I'm making dinner.

Book launches, media pitches, meetings, school drop-offs, hockey, homework and somehow trying to remember where the hell I left my phone.

And he's watching all of it.

Lucian has grown up watching me build businesses, write books, help other people write theirs, get clients into the media and turn ideas into something real.
That's important to me.

Because one of the greatest things I can teach him is that an idea doesn't have to stay an idea.

You can create something from nothing.
You can write the book.
Build the business.
Change directions.
Start over.
Take a risk.
And build a life that actually belongs to you.

There are days when balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship is completely fu***ng exhausting!!!!!

But then I look at him and remember exactly **why I keep building.**
He's watching.
And someday, I hope when he has a crazy idea of his own, his first thought isn't:

*"Can I really do that?"*
It's: **"Okay. How do I make it happen?"**

**GOING VIRAL DOESN'T MEAN YOU'RE SELLING BOOKS.**

I see authors chasing views like views are going to pay their bills.
A Reel gets 500,000 views.
A TikTok blows up.

Everyone celebrates.
Then you look at the book sales...
Crickets.

Because **attention without strategy is just attention.**
You need people seeing your content who actually give a s**t about your subject.

You need a reason for them to remember your name.

You need a clear path from discovering you to buying your book, booking you to speak, hiring you, inviting you onto a podcast, bringing you into the media, or becoming part of your community.

That's where so many authors miss it.

They spend all their energy trying to make **one post go viral** instead of building an entire platform around themselves and their book.

Your book should be working everywhere:
-Social media.
-Podcasts.
-PR.
-Speaking.
-Your website.
-Email.
-Partnerships.
-Events.
-And the conversations happening in the media right now.

**A $2.4 MILLION BOOK DEAL JUST COLLAPSED OVER AI.**

Yes. You read that right.

Last week a debut crime novel reportedly sparked a **14-way bidding war** and landed a deal worth about **$2.4 million**.

Then the deal fell apart after questions were raised about whether AI had been used in the writing process.

The author denies using AI to write the book. His representatives ultimately said they could no longer authenticate how the manuscript evolved from beginning to end.

And THIS is the conversation every author needs to be paying attention to.

**AI isn't going away.**

I think authors should learn how to use AI. But there's a massive difference between using AI as a **tool** and asking it to **be the author.**

I use AI - I use it to brainstorm.
*Use it to create tasks and run PR trends that I can submit clients for.
*Use it to research ideas you then verify.
*Use it to help organize your thoughts.
*Use it to challenge you when you're stuck.

But your stories, experiences, expertise, opinions, characters, humor, pain, perspective and **VOICE** need to come from you.

And if you're serious about traditional publishing, start protecting your creative process.

**Keep your drafts. Keep your notes. Keep your outlines. Keep your revisions.**

Because we're entering a completely new era of publishing where it may not be enough to say: *"I wrote this."*

You may need to be able to show **how you wrote it.**

AI should make you a more efficient writer.

**It shouldn't replace the writer.**

**AI BOOKS ARE FLOODING THE MARKET.**

Anyone can open an AI program today, type in a prompt, and have it spit out enough words to call something a "book."

And that's exactly why **real authors have an opportunity right now.**

The market is filling up with generic books that all sound the same.

Same language. Same recycled advice. Same predictable stories. Same voice. After a while, you can practically smell the AI coming off the page. (I know I can).

Meanwhile, readers still want a great fu***ng book.
They want stories that make them feel something.
They want expertise from someone who's actually done the thing they're teaching.

They want opinions, personality, real, raw messiness, specific details, and HUMOR!

Stories you couldn't possibly invent from a prompt because **you actually lived them.**

That's where authors need to focus.
Don't get me wrong, AI is an incredible tool WHEN it's used appropriately.

But the authors who stand out in this increasingly crowded market are going to be the ones who have something original to say and know how to turn it into a book people actually want to read.

**The easier it becomes to make a book, the more important it becomes to make a GOOD one.**
