Creativity is intimate. This is something I've concluded after a recent conversation about creativity. In this conversation a realization was made that my best work, the best things God gives me to say, the best things I've created, and my most favorite works of art are often not recorded, released, or used.

This realization frustrated me because in my desire to be impressive I want my BEST work to be seen and it seems as though it never is. It seems like when I'm saying really wise and impactful things, no one is recording. It seems like when I've created the best graphics for a client, the client ends up not using it. It seems like when I've written the best content, it was only meant for me or one person. It sucks. But it only sucks because I've neglected the fact that creativity is for me, it's for God, and it's not to be impressive. Creativity happens in the most intimate spaces and most times, our most intimate spaces are not to be shared.

But as I continued to reflect, I recognized that the majority of my creative work that IS released and that IS seen is inspired by the things that were never seen. It's inspired by what happened in intimacy.
