Most home service owners aren’t “bad at marketing”… their Google Ads are just set up to lose from day one.
Here are 5 expensive Google Ads mistakes I see in HVAC, plumbing, and garage door accounts every week:
Targeting way too wide
You’re paying for clicks from cities you’ll never drive to. That means more “leads” on paper but fewer jobs on the schedule.
Sending everything to the homepage
Your homepage tries to do 15 things at once. People with broken ACs or flooded basements don’t have the patience to hunt.
No negative keywords
You’re paying for “jobs,” “training,” “DIY,” and completely wrong locations. Then it feels like “Google doesn’t work” when it’s just Google doing what you told it to do.
No real conversion tracking
If you can’t see which campaigns and keywords turn into calls and booked jobs, you can’t confidently raise budget on what’s working (or cut what’s not).
Treating mobile like desktop
Most of your customers search from their phone. If your page is slow, hard to tap, or doesn’t push “call now,” you’re invisible when it matters
If you’re running Google Ads right now and aren’t sure which of these is hurting you, comment “AUDIT” or DM me “AUDIT.” I’ll send you a 3–5 minute Loom breaking down your account and your top 3 fixes.
