In November 2017, I launched South Brook Studio during a layover in Ireland on the same day I was moving abroad to work in the humanitarian field.

Since the first day of launching my business and moving to Greece, I have deeply wrestled with how to incorporate something so edited, so curated – such as design – into the messy, unedited realities my husband and I face in our humanitarian work. In fact, the tension has been so great that I have watched it quench my ability to explore, express, and share all these years later.

While there is not a way to resolve the tension of these two contrasting realities, I decided to undergo a process to visually represent this tension in my business. I hit “pause” on client work to refine the studio brand and clarify its purpose, values, and vision for years to come. As I strategically pieced together our new look, the studio’s mission came to life by utilizing simplistic typefaces, shapes, and tones that stand alone, yet integrated with unique textures and flavors that remind us life is not always curated. With this brand identity in tow, we can accomplish the vision of creating refined design for social brands and businesses to clarify and amplify their voice. To all the bold, the purposeful, the modern pioneers – we’re here for you.
