Djembe Jive founder, Nancy Brauhn-Curnes, MA is a dynamic and engaging rhythm-based event/drum circle facilitator, instructor, and performer with a passion for drumming and sharing that passion with others.
With over 40 years as a Special Education Teacher and a background in theatre and dance, Nancy brings with her to the drumming event(s) instinctive and innovative teaching skills. She is known for her playfulness, creativity and making drumming sessions stress free and fun. Nancy holds drum circle certifications from Village Music Circle (VMC), advanced training in HealthRHYTHMS wellness program and the Beat the Odds student empowerment program. She is a REMO-endorsed facilitator and a member of the Drum Circle Facilitation Guild (DCFG).
Nancy provides a Rhythm-Based Event/Drum Circle or a Djembe Jive performance designed to meet the requests of the client to take place as part of:

Hand Drumming Classes:
Nancy teaches weekly basic drumming skills and rhythms to those with little or no experience. Nancy provides a safe and comfortable space for participants so that they will be able to let go, feel energized, and develop a powerful sense of community with each other.
🧓👵👴Programs in Care Facilities:
Drumming is an excellent senior activity in memory care, assisted living, and continuing care facilities. It is an interactive event which allows them to create their own music. Rhythm positively affects the body and has healing properties. It provides a place for the mind, body, and spirit to rejuvenate and to remember.
👨🦽Programs for Persons with Disabilities:
Drumming sessions for children, youth and adults with special needs integrate activities which encourages focus, impulse control, social interaction, communication, fine and gross motor skills, team building, and leadership. But most of all…It’s just plain fun!!

Drumming provides children and youth an opportunity to find success and self-awareness of their rhythmic strength, taking positive risks and the means to develop community in a non-threatening environment.
