A reporting system tells you what happened. An intelligence system tells you what to do next.

The difference is triggers: a defined threshold for each number that produces a specific response when it is crossed. Without triggers, a dashboard is data you read for comfort on a slow Friday. With triggers, it is a decision instrument you use on Monday morning before the week starts.

New tactical piece builds the full 12-metric contractor dashboard: the six core numbers from Law 6 plus six supporting diagnostics, a trigger table for all twelve, and the build process to have the whole system running this week in under two hours.

The complete 12-metric contractor intelligence dashboard. Six core numbers to know cold every Monday, six supporting metrics that explain why they moved.

Housecall Pro already killed one website builder. They shut down the self-service version, told everybody it was discontinued, and replaced it with a done-for-you service where you can't even touch your own site. Want to change a phone number? Submit a request and wait.
Here's the part that should stop you cold. Cancel HCP and your website goes down with it. Every page, every bit of ranking you built, gone. You don't own it. You're renting it.
Their dispatch software is good. Keep it. Just don't build your whole web presence on top of it. The contractors who did that the first time got a memo, not a vote.
I wrote up the whole thing, what the 15 page cap actually costs you on Google, and how to keep HCP for dispatch while owning your website outright.

John D. Rockefeller kept a personal account ledger from age 16 until he retired. He called it Ledger A. He tracked every cent he earned and spent, and he applied the same discipline inside Standard Oil to track competitor costs, freight rates, and refining margins.

In negotiations with railroad executives, he could quote their own cost structures back at them from memory. Not because he was brilliant. Because he had written it down.

Most contractors are running their businesses on instinct and memory. They know roughly how busy they are. They don't know their close rate from the last 90 days, their average job value by category, or how many Google reviews they've pulled this month compared to last.

Law 6 of the Contractor's Campaign covers the six numbers every contractor at $2M to $10M needs to track and carry. New article is live.

At Alesia in 52 BC, Julius Caesar looked at terrain that favored the enemy and decided to build better ground instead. 24 miles of fortifications, six weeks of construction, and Vercingetorix surrendered.
Law 5 of the Contractor's Campaign applies that directly: if the dominant competitor owns your metro keywords, stop fighting him there. Pick three to five suburbs where his review density is thin and his landing pages are generic. Build there. Hold those zones completely.
New article is live with the historical breakdown, the two-operator comparison, and five moves to start this week.

Caesar built 24 miles of walls at Alesia when terrain didn't favor him. Law 5 translates that into geo-targeted local positions for contractors competing against dominant players.

Most contractors run their business from their head.
The estimates, the follow-ups, the receipts, the schedule, the lessons learned from the last bad job. All of it stored in one tired brain at the end of a 14-hour day.

That's not strategy. That's survival.

Sun Tzu had a different idea. Know the ground before you fight on it. Know your enemy. Know yourself. Win before the battle starts.

Most $2M to $10M contractors are losing battles their competitors planned and fought before they even bid the job. Not because they're worse at the trade. Because nobody taught them how to think like a strategist about their own business.

That's why I started writing The Laws of the Contractor's Campaign.
33 strategic principles. Field manual format. Built specifically for contractors who run small teams, do real work, and want to win their market instead of grinding through it.

Published Tuesdays and Thursdays. Free. No email gate, no upsell.

Question for the contractors reading this.
If I asked you right now how many Google reviews your top three competitors added last month, could you answer?

Most owners cannot. Some can guess at total review counts. Almost none track the monthly velocity, which is the number that actually predicts where the competitive landscape is moving.

Last week I published Law 2 of the Contractor's Campaign about Sam Walton crawling Kmart floors at 4 AM with a tape measure into his seventies. The principle is that the contractors who win are the ones who count what their competitors will not.

This morning I put up the tactical companion that walks through how to actually do it.

Five categories. A spreadsheet structure that takes 30 minutes to build and 16 hours per year to maintain.

The list goes far beyond review counts. Permit filings by zip code. Hiring posture on Indeed. Average ticket size estimated from permit values. The data point that surprised me most when I started running this discipline myself was Google Business Profile photo upload cadence. A competitor who has not uploaded a photo in eight months is signaling something specific about their operation that no other data point captures.

All of it is free. All of it is sitting on the public internet waiting to be counted.

The full operational set for systematic competitor intelligence: 23 data points across five categories. Roughly 16 hours per year to maintain.

Question for the contractors reading this.
If I asked you right now which three zip codes in your service area produce the most revenue, could you name them in order without looking?
Most owners I talk to can guess two of them, sometimes one. Almost nobody can name them confidently in order with the dollar figures attached.
That is not a failing. It is just data nobody ever told you to track.
Last Thursday I published Law 1 of the Contractor's Campaign, which laid out why terrain mapping is the foundation of every other strategic decision a contracting business owner makes. Today I just put up the tactical companion that walks through how to actually do it.
Free tools only. About 90 minutes on a Saturday or Sunday morning. By the time you finish, you have a real map of where your money comes from and where your money goes to die.
If you have ever wondered why some quarters feel feast and others feel famine even though the work seems steady, this exercise usually reveals the answer.
https://korekomfortsolutions.com/map-your-contractor-service-area/

Pull your last 50 jobs, map them by zip code, and see in one afternoon which three zips pay and which ones bleed. Tactical companion to Law 1.
