Social media landed on their list, and suddenly it became their profession.

Maybe it’s your administrative coordinator, or executive assistant, orr someone in development orrr communications, orrrrr maybe it’s you, Executive Director. 👋

You gave them this task because they’re smart, they’re capable, they know your organization deeply.

And now you’ve trusted them with figuring out:

Strategy.
Content planning.
Copywriting.
Graphics.
Video.
Scheduling.
Community management.
Analytics.

Oh, and make it engaging. 😅

That’s not one job. That’s a marketing team.

And the person inside your organization can be an incredible part of that team! They know what’s happening, what matters right now, who we need to talk to, and where the good stories are hiding.
Give them people who know what to do with it.

At Holloway Media Services, we bring the strategy, storytelling, writing, production, programming, and marketing expertise to work with the people who already know your organization best.

You keep the institutional knowledge; we bring the marketing department. Now everybody gets to do more of what they’re actually great at and were hired for. 🙌

For nearly three years, we built together without being together.

We talk every day.

We’re on Zoom every week.

We’ve created campaigns, solved problems, served our clients, celebrated wins, worked through challenges, and grown Holloway Media Services together–but we hadn’t all been in the same room in nearly three years!

Until now.

And we didn’t realize how much that would mean to all of us. 💚

We got new headshots.
We talked about where HMS is going.
We learned together.
We worked together.

Then we closed the laptops and had some FUN together!

We can't help but dream about what’s next. This year, Harrisburg. 2027? Maybe we take this show on the road and meet in a different city. 👀

We’re growing this company as a group, and one of the coolest parts of that growth is getting to experience more of it together, too.

Work. Learn a lot. Laugh even more.

Let this be inspiration to get out of the little Zoom boxes and be together, together.

Friendly reminder:

You didn’t start a business to become its unpaid intern. Your business can support your goals, your life, the people you love AND the impact you want to make.

Your business is here to serve you.

We all remember where we were.

Heather had just graduated from college and moved home. She heard the first reports on the radio while running errands, hurried home and told her mom, “Turn on the TV.”

Amy was a journalism student in New York, watching the news before class. What she witnessed that morning would shape the conversations in her journalism courses for the rest of the semester.

Joe was barely out of college and home from work that day. At first, he thought he was hearing about a terrible accident. Then he turned on the television.

Jacque had just finished breakfast. Her family didn’t have a television at home, so she and her siblings went to their uncle’s house, where they spent the day pretending to focus on schoolwork while watching and waiting to see what would happen next.

Four young adults. Four different places. The same disbelief as we watched an unimaginable day unfold.

Twenty-five years later, we also remember what came afterward: the bravery, the compassion, people gathering together, and a sense of unity that crossed communities and borders.

We wish we could find more of that unity today.

Remembering those whose lives were lost, those who stepped forward to help, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

May we keep choosing our shared humanity.

Some of our favorite content ideas don’t arrive fully baked.

They sound more like:

“Okay, hear me out…”

“This might be weird…”

“I don’t know if there’s anything here, but…”

We LOOOVE those sentences. 😂

A good content partner doesn’t need you to show up with the finished idea. We’re listening for the half-formed thought you almost dismissed. The story you mentioned in passing. The client question you’ve answered 100 times. The opinion you assumed everybody already knew. The funny moment that happened in a meeting. The thing that made your team say, “Wait. We should do something with that.”

Noticing is our #1 job at HMS.

Then we help you figure out what the idea could become.

A video? A post? A skit? A story? A whole content franchise?

Give the idea a spin and let’s see where it goes.

That’s a whole lot more fun than staring at a blank content calendar! 😉

If you’re a CEO with plenty to say but no desire to turn yourself or your VA into a marketing department, let’s talk.

ONE. BILLION. DOLLARS. 🤯

That’s how much profit Shaneh Woods says the businesses and books she’s helped manage have collectively generated over the last 30 years.

Record scratch. 🎶

Yep. We needed to talk.

In this episode of Women Who Rock, Shaneh and I get into the soul AND the science of money.

We talk Profit First, money mindset, worthiness, hot-potatoing your money, building a business that actually serves YOU, and her new book, Profit Is Protest.

Trust us, this isn’t your traditional accounting conversation. 😂

If you’re building a business, making money, spending money, or wondering how the heck to feel better about money, come hang with us.

There’s a moment before every new idea when you can still back out.

This was mine. 😂

The stencil was on. The smiley face my mom drew was stenciled to my arm. Rule #6 was ready to become a permanent reminder:

Don’t take yourself so seriously.

I talk a lot about saying yes to the idea, but here’s the part we don’t say enough:

You don’t have to know exactly how something is going to turn out before you try it.

That applies to tattoos.
It applies to business.
And it DEFINITELY applies to social media.

That video idea you keep talking yourself out of?

Try it.

The story that feels a little different from what you normally post?

Tell it.

The goofy concept that made your VA laugh but then you decided it “wasn’t professional enough”?

Oh, I’d revisit that one. 👀

Every piece of content doesn’t have to become your greatest hit.

You try, learn, adjust and keep moving.

That’s how you figure out what feels like you. That’s how your audience gets to know you. And that’s how your content gets a whole lot more interesting. 🎯

💬 Tell me in the comments: What’s one idea you’d try if you stopped worrying about getting it exactly right?

There’s a smiley face tattooed on my arm.

My mom drew it. Underneath it, in her handwriting, are two words and a number:

Rule #6

AKA–Don’t take yourself so seriously.

Turns out, that’s pretty solid social media advice too. 😂

If every post has to be perfectly polished, perfectly professional and perfectly safe, you’re probably leaving the most interesting parts of your brand on the cutting-room floor.

So, class is officially in session. 🎓

This month, I’m talking about skits, Ninja Turtles, Professor Holloway, the advantage of having a small team, and why your next great content idea might start with:

“Wouldn’t it be funny if…”

Your September assignment? Loosen up and give the idea a go.

Everybody, stop what you're doing. Over the weekend, we missed celebrating an HMS birthday! 🎉 🎂

Happy Birthday to our copywriter and social media manager, Joe Straub!

Joe is one of those people who can take a jumble of ideas, half-finished thoughts, client expertise, and a whole lot of context and somehow turn it into copy that sounds exactly like the person it belongs to.✨📝

That's a gift.

He's thoughtful, creative, dependable, funny, and an important part of the team behind all the content HMS sends out into the world.

And when Joe isn't finding exactly the right words for our clients, there's a pretty good chance he'd rather be out enjoying the open road on his motorcycle. 🏍️

Joe, we hope your birthday includes good people, great food, plenty of laughs, and maybe a little time on two wheels.

We're incredibly grateful that you're part of Team HMS and for everything you bring to our clients and our crew.

Help us make Joe's day and drop him some birthday love in the comments! 🎉

What happens after you say yes to something you have never done before? 😅

According to Samantha Drucker, you figure it out, honey. 😉

Her advice is simple:

Put your best self forward.
Say yes to life.
Feel the fear.
Do it anyway.

That doesn’t mean you need to have every answer before you begin. It means trusting that you can learn, ask for help, adjust, and meet the opportunity once you're inside it. 👌

Samantha’s career is proof of that approach. She has continued reinventing herself as an image consultant, author, journalist, host, actress, advocate, comedian, and television creator by remaining open to where life might take her next.

Sometimes confidence arrives before the leap. 🙏
Sometimes the leap is how you build it. 🛠️

Say yes. Invest in yourself. Then go figure it out, honey. 🔥
