Today is Indigenous People's Day...
The land where I live is where the Arapahoe, Cheyenne and Ute people, among other Indigenous People, lived harmoniously for countless generations before the onslaught of colonization.
Like Indigenous Peoples across the Americas (and most of the world), they experienced genocide, ethnic cleansing, theft of their land and waters, and forced removal.
Our ability to live, work, and enjoy this area is connected to their deep loss.
It is imperative that everyone, including our governing bodies, respect all Indigenous Peoples and learn the true history of the lands on which we reside.
VISIT: native-land.ca to understand who your land rightfully belongs to and work to bring that awareness to your family and community so that we can continue to publicly acknowledge the truth of our occupation on stolen land and take LONG overdue right action toward supporting Indigenous communities at the ground level. Every day, not just today.
