DownEast Acadia stretches along Maine’s rugged northeastern coast from Penobscot Bay to the St. Croix River, encompassing an astonishing 2,300 miles of shoreline and more than 5,600 square miles of wide-open space. Three days exploring the Deer Isle–Stonington coast by sea kayak. Photographer 🫎 Jamie Walter joined Will, owner and guide of Osprey’s Echo Sea Kayaking Sea Kayaking, for an adventure that
included two nights of island camping, a visit to a working scallop farm and miles of exploring Maine’s coastal islands from the water.

Meet Will, owner and guide of Osprey’s Echo Sea Kayaking. With local knowledge of the waters and islands around Deer Isle and Stonington, he led the group through three days
of exploring the coast.

Loaded up and ready to paddle. Everything the group needed for the next few days traveled with them by kayak, including their camping gear.

Granite shorelines, spruce-covered islands and open ocean views. Traveling by kayak gives you a completely different perspective of this part of the Maine coast.

After a day on the water, this was home for the night. The group spent two nights camping on an island along their route.

There was plenty of time along the way to pull the kayaks ashore, explore and take in the views.

Dozens of islands make up the Stonington Archipelago, with quiet beaches, granite shorelines and plenty of places to explore along the way.

Not your average kayak stop! Osprey’s Echo partners with PenBay Farmed Scallops , giving paddlers a chance to visit the working scallop farm and experience another side of Maine’s
working waterfront.

The perfect end to a day of paddling: a campfire on the island as the sun sets over the water.

After three days on the water, the group spent one more night at The Deer Isle Hostel, an off-grid eco-hostel with a hand-built, 17th-century-inspired main building surrounded by woods and gardens.

Mornings on the island call for local coffee. ☕ 44northcoffee roasts its organic coffee right here on Deer Isle, a perfect taste of the island to start the day.

Three days by sea kayak, two nights camping on an island, dozens of islands to explore and one final night on Deer Isle. This is a great way to experience the coast of the Downeast Acadia region.
