The third city identity sticker hired us to create was for California’s capital, Sacramento. Our initial research led us in three different potential directions, a nod to the rich art scene in the city done in the form of a mural, an homage to the farm-to-table backbone of Sacramento and its deep ties to nature, and the concept our team and the WeWork shareholders felt best captured the capital, also known as River City.

The final design positions the Tower Bridge across the center of the sticker, with one of Sacramento’s two major rivers careening below it. The significance of farming to the city is referenced via the crop fields seen in the background, with lush hills filling in the other parts of the sticker to convey the deep connection to nature and wildlife that the city has.

The city was the epicenter of the California Gold Rush in 1848 due to its location on the Sacramento River, so we used gold and blue hues to harken back to that deeply consequential period in California’s history.

Our second project for , the city identity sticker for Palo Alto, California, brought new challenges for us to wrestle with. With WeWork, the goal is always to find the parts of the city that residents connect with, not just tourists. We knew we would need to pay homage to Silicon Valley, but we couldn’t stop there if we wanted to properly represent the city.

Despite that knowledge, our initial concepts felt off. They weren’t properly capturing the heart of the city. So we started over and rethought the entire concept from the ground up, choosing to focus on the nature that ties together the tech hub.

The result hit the mark perfectly. The design is built around the namesake of the city, El Palo Alto. The tall redwood tree is thought to be just under 1,000 years old and remains an icon of beauty and resilience. Below the tree are the outlines of a circuit board, a reference to Silicon Valley and companies like Hewlett and Packard that were born out of garages in the city. In the background, glass buildings embellish the already beautiful skyline, and a resident bikes through the city.

When asked us to design the city identity sticker for their upcoming San Antonio, Texas location, we were honored and eager to explore how to express our deep love for the city. Y’alls founder, Travis, hails from San Antonio and was committed to fulfilling WeWork’s desire to highlight the parts of the city that go beyond what you might read in a quick profile or list of must-sees.

We were hellbent on showing off the city as a place of rich history, but also of explosive growth. We centered the design around the well-known River Walk, but rather than showing what you'd see if you were to look up images of it, we focused on how the iconic body of water connects the city, from new developments like The Pearl and Frost Tower, to staples of countdown city, like The Alamo, The Tower of the Americas, and La Antorcha de la Amistad.

The sun rising in the background is a nod to the bright future of the city, led by the inspiring local innovators, political leaders, and citizens. And of course we had to bring it all together with the classic Spurs colors.

Swipe for the sticker we created for Austin. Though it ended up not being used, it kicked off our relationship with WeWork. Plus it features Willie Nelson's guitar, Trigger. What's not to love?
