It's official - Polka!Press has moved!
We’re celebrating our new location (and Pride Month🌈) — and you’re invited! Join us for an open studio on Saturday, June 8, at our new space on Winnebago Street.
It was no small feat — turns out moving a printmaking studio is a massive undertaking. We are SO appreciative to all those that helped make it happen. 😊

Happy May Day from your local print cooperative! Polka Press is settling into our Winnebago location and it has been a months-long labor of love.

We’re so happy to be printing again, check out some of our first prints in the new space from .mixed and ! As a print cooperative dedicated to supporting and uplifting our communities, we honor and celebrate workers, immigrants, lgbtqia+ folks, artists, educators and activists today and every day!

P.S. We’ve extended our GFM to cover additional moving and renovation costs. As a volunteer-run group, we’re so appreciative for all of your support. We look forward to sharing the new space with you soon!

Exciting news! We’re moving in April 2025!

We’ll be saying goodbye to our home on Fordem Ave for the past nine years and moving to 2051 Winnebago St this spring. We’re so excited to be back in the Atwood neighborhood and looking forward to expanding our programming and offerings to artists and the community once we’re re-settled.

We’re raising funds to help cover the costs of our move and invest in improvements to the new space and updates to equipment. We’re looking forward to having a fully wheelchair accessible and safe space for all ages and abilities to explore printmaking.

Learn to screen print at Polka Press with local printmakers and .mixed ! Open to all levels, this process-based workshop will emphasize the basics of screen printing while empowering you as a creator. Two experienced screen printers will lead you through the steps of creating a print on paper. You will create a group collage print, learn how to coat a screen, use the exposure unit, and print a one-layer print. Ink and paper are included in the cost of the workshop. Join us to learn, collaborate and create!

5 WEEK CLASS IN LINOLEUM BLOCK PRINTING, USING THE REDUCTION BLOCK METHOD!

Jim McKiernan will teach this class at Polka Press Cooperative beginning Saturday, Sept. 9. The class will meet from 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. for five consecutive Saturdays.

The fee of $125.00 will cover the materials and equipment you will need to make an edition of 15 prints from a design you will develop in the classroom.

Print & Resist Zine Fest is a day-long festival of political print media, zines, experimental publications, and prints related to the world of art, do-it-yourself culture, and political action. The event brings together subversively creative print/media artists including zine makers, printers, poster-makers, and other self-published artists and writers to share their work with the Madison area community.

Polka Press member is having a big event on Saturday March 18th and you're invited! In honor of zuzu's 18th birthday, they are throwing a huge birthday pawty for her!

This event is free and open to the public. The fun will be Saturday March 18th, 1-5 at their studio building, 100 S. Baldwin, in the 3rd floor gallery space.

The featured activity is LIVE SCREENPRINTING! You can come pull your own bernie & zuzu designed print (paper provided or bring a tshirt or tote) with help from Polka members .mixed and .23
who can also answer your questions about Polka Press.

Other activities will include button making, zuzu coloring page, a zuzu themed photo booth, cupcakes, and a raffle with prizes including original artwork, prints, a quilt and art made by zuzu!!!

We will also reveal a new zuzu tshirt and other zuzu themed prints, and have a "pay what you can" seconds section.

It's going to be a blast!!! We really hope you can make it!!!

See you Sunday at the Pal-entines event and art market from 10-4 at the Brassworks building at Goodman Community Center.

Along with a bunch of other local nonprofits and artists, Polka will be hosting a community valentine exchange! You can make valentines at this event and send them in the mail!
