To us, to create a brand successfully is to inspire a feeling, an experience that leaves the viewer better after having interacted with it on any level. Once we know the audience, telling them a story, or even a hint of a story, inspires them to want to know more.

In this case, we found an image, that we used in a recent client mood board, because of the story it prompted us to want to know about this woman. The artist's choice of color, place, costume and even hairstyle made us crave more. Even if we have to make it up.

In honor of Black history month, we share work from artist Glenn Ligon, “People often say to me my work is timely and I think, ‘Well, racism’s been around for a long time’.

In his 45' long work, ‘Stranger (Full Text) #2’ (2020-2021), Ligon renders James Baldwin’s 1953 essay ‘Stranger in the Village,’ in which the famed Black writer and activist describes his experience visiting a small town in Switzerland.

The many layers of texture, color, form and sheer size invite viewers to discover the life experience of another.

We seem to be obsessed with color around here, though you would never know it to look at us in person. The usual wardrobe is black, white or grey, tone on tone, for reasons I cannot explain. Possibly because creativity is saved for more important things than what to wear, or I am lazy in the morning and thus have resorted to a closet full of simple things that all go together no matter what.

May the element of play and delight be with you always, but especially during the holidays.
