Meet Wilson.

He was one of the first bits of wildlife to greet us at our new home in Vermont. Named after his species—the Wilson’s snipe—he’s a small, chunky bird known for that long bill and camo-like feather pattern.

You’ll usually find him in the field just behind our house, hoppin’ around and squawking up a storm. After a long winter, I’m happy to report he’s back in all his glory. I’ve managed to snap his mugshot a few times… and, naturally, turned him into a linocut.

Stopped by a cool little art shop in Montpelier and snatched up some honest-to-goodness linoleum chunks and did what any reasonable adult would do: I drew a dumb face, carved the thing straight into the block, stamped it and scribbled over the top.

Scrappy and a little crooked. Perfect.
