History
Hintzsche Feed and Grain, Inc. was founded in 1962 by brothers Richard and Kenneth Hintzsche. During that first year, a modern pellet mill was constructed at Troxel 6 miles south of Maple Park, Illinois. This feed mill served local livestock producers and was the main focal point of business for the first decade of operation. Diversification began in 1965 with the addition of a fluid susp
ension fertilizer plant at the Troxel facility. The plant design was unique to the area and virtually all of the fertilizer produced was custom applied with specialized application equipment. In 1968, the Hintzsche brothers purchased the first "Big "A" three wheel floatation applicator sold in the State of Illinois. This bold move was typical of the leading edge attitude of the founding owners. This innovation paid off in the 1970’s as our unique service capability and the addition of fertilizer plants in DeKalb and Kirkland saw several years of 100% growth. Grain expansion started during the 1970’s with additional elevators purchased at Waterman and Hinckley in 1984. Grain storage was significantly expanded during the grain glut of the ‘80’s to satisfy the needs of customers. Our focus today is helping customers with risk management marketing and exploring opportunities in specialty crops. In 1990, the Maple Park Oil Company was purchased as Hintzsche’s expanded into petroleum sales. A year later, Bowman Oil of Waterman was acquired to further grow our petroleum market presence. This division has helped us provide a well-rounded portfolio of products to our customers. The Company continues to operate today with the same focus on innovation and dedication to our customers and employees that Rich and Ken started many years ago. The second generation of Hintzsches now owns the Company and is preparing, with the assistance of a quality employee team, to meet the challenges of the next decade.
