“Brilliance in the Basics!” 🔥

This year the legendary Zack “Van Gogh” Newton blessed us with the treatment.

“Brilliance in the Basics” was sparked by a real good friend of mine and arguably the best firefighter/officer I had the opportunity to work with. Every year we had a theme that set the tone and goals for our crew, but the one that always stuck with me most was our “Back to the basics” year.

After him making sure we knew he didn’t think we suck 😂, he explained that he wanted us to hit that sweet fireground symphony! Everyone executing without the need to think or communicate the basic task.

We pulled hose. Forced doors. Threw ladders. Pumped. Ran basic extrication drills. over and over until it became second nature. Nothing trendy . Just mastering the fundamental tasks of the fireground.

As a result these task became 2nd nature and when we showed up things got done fast!

This year’s MAFFC logo represents the hard work every brother and sister puts in at the station, during training, and most importantly, on the fireground. It represents the pride that comes from putting in the reps and trusting the people beside you.
That proud officer still fu***ng around with his waist straps knows his crew is ready for whatever comes through the door.
