Today I learned the best account executive I ever worked with passed away at 86 years young. I met Jim Kell when he was already 80 years young. And Jim was as diligent of an account rep and as thoughtful, gracious and supportive as anyone I ever worked with. I use to tell his boss my friend David DuBose, don’t let him retire.
I talked to Jim last Thurs, I called him to let him know we would be doing a campaign in July and August. Jim answered his cell phone in ICU and said Darien Southerland please call David. I don’t know how much longer I got. But I love ya . I believe my buddy Did. 86 years old and dying doing what he loved selling radio and talking with his clients . He drove a school bus for special needs kids till he was 85 so his wife would have great insurance he told me.
His funeral is Friday at 11 am in Northport AL. I’d love to be present and I actually thought of going. But then honestly I heard Jim’s voice say to me. “Darien a better tribute to me is for you to go close that 2:30 pm deal you have been working “ don’t cry for me , I’m on streets of gold, That what I would do. “”I’m dead I told ya I loved ya . “” Now go close it. “.

Jim that’s what I’m gonna do my friend. In the meantime I’ll miss ya ..
