Why private mortgage protection when I have PMI already? Simply put... PMI protects the LENDER if you default on your loan. It does NOT protect your family if you or your spouse pass away or become disabled. Mortgage protection insurance will continue making your monthly payments until the death benefit runs out. Most of our clients take out enough benefit to more than pay the mortgage off so their loved ones aren’t forced to sell or move if they don’t want to.
