🚨 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING UNTIL 6:45 PM 🚨

The National Weather Service in La Crosse has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for central Mower County in southeastern Minnesota until 6:45 PM CDT.

At 6:15 PM, a severe thunderstorm was located near Rose Creek, about 11 miles east of Austin, moving east at 10 mph.

⚠️ Hazards:
💨 60 mph wind gusts
🧊 Quarter-size hail

Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees is possible.

Areas impacted include mainly rural central Mower County, including Elkton and Dexter.

🚗 This includes I-90 in Minnesota between mile markers 186 and 195.

🏠 Take shelter now! Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and tonight across Iowa and the Upper Midwest. The main threats include:

🌪️ Tornadoes — a few could be strong
🧊 Very large hail
💨 Damaging winds
⚡ Intense supercells transitioning into bowing storm clusters this evening

Forecasters say the greatest tornado potential may develop near the warm front across northern Iowa and southern Minnesota later today as wind shear increases. Conditions are becoming favorable for rotating storms capable of producing all severe hazards.
